Default Problems Connecting to Limewire

Recently, I began having problems connecting to the Gnutella network through both Limewire and Bearshare. I've been using both for a number of months and have only had problems in the last few weeks, and have just thought to try posting on the forum to see if someone can help me with my problem. I have tried deleting the preferences folder in the "Documents and Settings" folder, as well as the suggestion of disabling startup tips and automatic connection. I have, in addition, added the 6346 port to my firewall to allow an internet connection through it.

The OS that I am using is Windows XP, and I am on a two-computer network, the other computer being the host. Apparently, my roommate is able to connect to Bearshare, but I am not. When I look at the Connections section of either program, all the host connections continually timeout. Also, I have the latest version of both Bearshare and Limewire. Can anyone here tell me how to fix this? I really like both programs, and don't wanna have to try and find a different one.

Add port 6347 and port 6348 as well to your firewall. Check the advanced options and see what port it says there. Barring that, turn your entire firewall off temporarily and try that. If that doesn't work, it is your ISP.

Thanks

Why would my ISP suddenly stop supporting it? I mean, it worked fine up until a few weeks ago.

And it couldn't be my ISP...if it was, then it shouldn't work from my roommate's host computer either, right? But it does. It just won't work on mine.

I did search the source code for a reference to port 6348 and I could not find anything. Do you have any pointers?

If 6346 is in use, Acceptor.java will try to bind one of 6347-6356 as listening port.

Yep, I did see that. But for a normal installation this should surely not happen. If you happen to run two file sharing applications at the same time it makes bandwidth management unpredictable. It also makes firewall management a nightmare, so I personally would prefer if an app would inform me of the used port instead of silently switching to some other unused port I am not aware of.
