Search question: search not enabled Hello. I am at a different location today than where i normally use this laptop (powerbook G3 - OSX 10.3.2, panther, Safari browser) . My previous downloads are still connecting, as I can see when i view connections. But I cannot initiate any new searches. The search button is blue (highlighted), however when I fill in a field and click on search, the search field goes blank and the search button is no longer highlighted. Is this a firewall issue from where I am now connecting (i am connected through cable via DHCP)? Where is the setting that allows me to change this? |

Unless you have access to the router/firewall of your new location, the only setting that might help is the "force IP" in prefs->Advanced->Firewall. The previous downloads have already established a connection (HTTP), so don't need to connect to gnutella network. Enabling the firewall settings might help: System Preferences->Sharing->Firewall->New-Gnutella/Limewire (6346) Cheers |

Hello Stefan, ( I am writing from Amsterdam). Thank you very much. Your suggestions worked. First I changed the computer system preferences, and I was still not able to search, so I changed the LW prefs, and was also not able to search. Only then did I remember that I should restart LW before the effect would take place. Once I had re-started LW, I was able to search. Therefore I do not know which of your tips did the trick! But I am muchly appreciative for your help. |

Hi Cralanman, Which preference did you change in LimeWire that required a restart to take effect? If this was the problem, we can add a notification that LimeWire may need to be restarted for the setting to take effect. (A warning like this pops up when changing the "use internal player" setting.) Do you think LimeWire need to be restarted because you changed the computer's preferences while LimeWire was running? Thanks. |

Hello Sberlin, I put both of the settings back to their original position to determine, and the answer is that the problem was solved when I changed settings in LW. The setting is Limewire ->preferences -> advanced -> firewalls -> check the 'force ip' box. So, to answer your question: "Do you think LimeWire need to be restarted because you changed the computer's preferences while LimeWire was running?" I think that the answer is that when I forced ip in limewire, I needed to re-start the lw app itself, before the change would take effect. The reason I think this is because I removed the gnutella/limewire entry that I had made into the computer system's preferences, and was still able to initiate searches, once I had changed the preferences in Limewire. But this was only possible when I quite & re-opened limewire itself. Please ask me to clarify if this does not make sense. Thanks for improving limewire. |
