Hi there

the problem persists.
I now disconnected the AIRMAC and went straight into the internet (conntected by cable)– no change at all. The search
still does not get me anywhere.
What I don't understand is on how the firewall could be turned off.

I ticked the firewall button off (system preferences - sharing - firewall), hence it is off – but I was told there is a 2nd firewall installed but I have no idea on how to get rid of this barrier.

I am starting to think that I have ticked somewhere some button which I should not have... and that it can be resolved easily.

Wow, I thought this whole file sharing was a rather straightforward thing - anyone some experiences with other/better providers than Limewire?

thomas--plugging the cablemodem directly into the ethernet port was a good way to isolate the search problems from airport problems. jum's experience with network problems is extensive--he was the one who solved a problem I'd had for months (turned out to be my ISP). FWIW, I tried every p2p app I could until jum figured out what was going on, but experience proved LW, its developers and users were the best for the Mac, especially when there were problems. YMMV. If you were able to connect directly with the firewall turned off and still showed no incoming connections after 15 minutes, there really is something wrong.

Did you see the note about the other program that was disrupting java? http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=24778 You already tested for the xerces file, I recall, but the link might give you more hints. Other than that, I'm out of ideas.

I actually found a file called xerceslmpl.jar in a java directory - so I thought that was what you refered to.

Power cycling - what is this and how do I do this - no idea, sorry, I am not a technical guy.

cheers to all of you who tried to help - I think I will wait now for the reply from LW - thanks a lot for your valuable time.

Morning Stief

I saw that that recommendations was from 2002, hence I thought they have in the meantime corrected the problem.

Do you know what uninstalling the XSLTFOEngine will actually do? I.e. will I affect other programs, such as iPhoto?

Thanks

evening thomas (GMT-6 here).
Maybe Jens or Sam or Roger could tell you. I've never tried scruffyware. You could just move it to the trash and try, and move it back if you didn't like what you found, no?

btw--sounds like some interesting products (despite this conflict). Once they fix the problem I'll be interested in adding the extra iPhoto capabilities, or do you think messing with iPhoto too big a risk?

Just to report that I got the feedback from LimeWire support - the suggested to do the following which WORKED !!!
-Delete all versions of LimeWire.
-Delete all LimeWire aliases and installers from your desktop and Dock.
-Reboot your computer.
-Download the OS X installer, using the download link that was emailed
to you on the date of your purchase.
-Reinstall LimeWire Pro.

So, after trying it the hard way, I simply got rid of all related files and downloaded the LW software once more and it works again - this time I can even see that other users have access to my database and download files.

Many thanks again for your help and time. Cheers and goodbye (for now) - hope it will work longer than 3 days this time around.

Tom

This is due to the newer builds containing a hack to ignore the additionally installed xerces parsers and use just the one included in the LimeWire package. It may need to be revised if Apple updates its Java package, but by then the third party application installer probably has fixed his package so the duplicate xerces libraries do not happen any more.
