connection problems I am new to computers & new to Limewire. How come my boxes in left hand bottom corner are staying red & say connecting. If I try to search the message says Limewire is still connecting & your search may result in fewer results. |
After opening LW it's best to leave it for a time before doing anything. Give it a chance to settle. Then search. It should have green or blue bars in the connection quality not red. |
a lil help here hi i've tried all the suggestions and nothing seems to work i have windows xp and i've set the firewall up. i tried the jar thing but i can't figure it out. it asks me what program to run it with and i'm like aaa..... well if you can help thanks |
I give up, for a couple of days it worked fine but now when I open it up it connects only about 1 out of 20 tries. maybe i'll try it agin in a few months when a new version comes out... |
*sigh* Been messing around with this for weeks now. Tried everything. I am running Win2000 I am a SouthWest Bell DSL customer with a 2wire router There are two other computers that successfully run Limewire in my apartment. One is a PC that is wired, the other is a laptop that is wireless. They are both WinXP. The computer I am having problems with is a laptop and is connected wirelessly. I'm running Norton, and have allowed Limewire and javaw.exe to access the internet. I have set my 2wire firewall to allow Gnutella on port 6346. At first when I tried to do this, it wouldn't allow it because the port was already being used. I still don't know what was using it (I downloaded a program to tell me what programs are using what port, and I didn't see a conflict), but the next day when I tried to force my 2wire firewall to allow Gnutella, it accepted it. I have uninstalled and reinstalled, I have shut down Limewire and deleted the .limewire folder and restarted, I have unchecked the "Connect at Startup" and restarted, I have changed the port to 7000 and restarted. At one point I was using ZoneAlarm. I deleted it before I installed Norton. To be certain that there weren't any residual blocks from ZA, I re-installed it, manually went in and allowed all access for Limewire and javaw.exe. When this didn't work, I uninstalled ZA again. I have used AdAware, I know that in the past I've seen problems from AdAware on other computers (causes Outlook to stop connecting). I'm not sure if it is causing the same for LimeWire, and I wouldn't know how to correct it if it were. I hope this is enough information for someone to be able to help, I really don't want to have to clean up all te spyware from other file sharing programs. But I will if I can't get this to work. Thanks! |
NEW SOLUTION......!!!!!!!!! Guys, ive had all the problems anyone had. Tryied Setting GNUTELLA, deleting .limewire, even restarted, downloaded that weird file that couldnt open, etc etc. IF nothing worked, u may missed one little part: before u download LM installer, it says on the faq, to download JAVA, a little program for optimization. well...my old LM version always worked without it, but 4.8 looks like it needs it. install it, restart, and if it didnt worked, dude...commit suicide, cause ive been trying to run this for ever, and I was about to curse everyone that works for LM...but hey, 18 bucks is finally something. By the way, I have pro but even the non pro worked. WIn XP, 3.0ghz, 1 gb ram Good luck yall... |
Donica, With 3 pc's on the same router you will need to setup, STATIC ip's, individual ports in eah LW client, and forward the same ports to each PC's ip. I'm still trying to "tweak" this app into shape myself. First, I would try setting up all the clients on the lan with manual (STATiC) ip's, share a folder on each of them and see that you can access the shared folder thru the lan. Then, you need to setup individual port "sets" on each one as well and FORWARD the "sets" per station from the router. This is in theory how it "should" work but this new age of P2P is quite a mix of clues instead of directions :D Try this, under the firewall config of LW: :Client one: Listen: 6346 Manual port forward: 6346 :Client two: Listen: 25201 Manual port forward: 25201 :Client three: Listen: 25301 Manual port forward: 25301 For each station you set the port set the same FORWARDING port in the router to that stations IP. There seems to be some confusion on ports but in theory this should work. They are suppose to be TCP but you could try setting your router/firewalls to allow both both TCP/UDP. Technically speaking that is all the more you should have to do! In theory, when client 3 sends out a request for something the server/client responding will send back info to port 25301 TCP on your router and then your router will FORWARD that info to the IP set for Client 3 :) In theory :) Also, try disabling both Ipsecurity (IPSEC) and Block Wan Request. Consult your manual or www.portforward.com/routers.htm <--NOTE--> Your router may differ from the one listed at the site. Also, check for router flashware/hardware/software upgrades! =---> 25010-25792 optional safe ports to use! <---= PLEASE POST BACK! GL! bT_Mazter ~----===[*#*]===----~ |

Joshnbox reinstall the Java or Security update. Have a look at the Sticky in the OSX section of the forum. |
