On the top of the bar, it says "Enabling Open Information Sharing" and everything else seems to be connected. However, when I try to search for music, it says that I am not connected to the internet or if I am able to connect, then my quality is "poor." What does poor quality mean [I know, probably a dumb question] and why does it say I'm connected, but can't search for music? I know... I'm must be really stupid.

Is the Search button available for clicking? I'm asking because if your status says "Connecting" (not connected. There is no such status) then you shouldn't be able to click the search button.
Poor means that you aren't connected to many Ultrapeers (probably just one) and because of that, if the Ultrapeer goes offline you're basically screwed. The best connection is Turbo-charged (connected to 6 Ultrapeers), in which case you become an Ultrapeer yourself (unless you've disabled that).
Poor quality is not too bad (especially if the only other status you can get is Connecting, doh). It will allow you to connect and search. If you have some files and start uploading them, it can have some very very positive effects on your connection status: people will try to connnect to you to dld from you=more connections=better status.
