either i'm computer stupid or can't follow directions, but I've tried everything mentioned and i still can't connect... I do have norton firewall, if this has anything to do with it. I've gone to where my preferences should be, and nothing is even mentioned about preferences... I did download the windows service pack 2, so i tried to go to that firewall but it says it isn't even working... .sigh. help!

When they came out with the SP2 it was mostly designed for the buisness prospects in mind if you are a home user there is really not much need for the SP2.I have adsl connection without service packs or any firewalls and I download at speeds of over 120kbps.Those firewalls can be more of a pain than what they are worth. If it works just keep it that way rather than changing and creating yourself a nightmare.

guywithaproblem: an you give us a total desciption of your set up: ram, HDD space available, Connection type, Modem & router brand name & model numbers, Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?

Whilst you haven't installed Mcafee, You'll still have XP firewall. Have youconfigured it to allow both LW & java access? See here: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml

A solution for the over worked minds

I had problems connecting and read the posts to help better inform me of what I may be doing wrong. Well, I am sadly admitting my stupidity to help others from the same embarassment the I personally just endured. When trying to enable Limewire through my firewall (SP2) I accidentaly went to the the windows firewall area instead of the internet connection sharing area. There I had added the port under the exceptions and then left it unchecked. Realizing that this was wrong, I went to the Internet connection area and input the information correctly without deleting my previous mistake. Which in return..kind of cancelled each other out. When I finally went back to the windows firewall area and deleted the extra ports my connection actually worked. I guess I was in a hurry and didn't take the time to read the verbage. I am only sharing this with all of you so you don't have to write in this forum and feel a cloud of stupidity over your head...and to also realize that you may have also made the same mistake and can now get connected.

Have fun sharing.... Ms. Embarassed!

Only then did it work and I just got excellent connection.
