SP2 Issues Thankyou ZAP, I was at my wits end with this - I even considered deleting SP"!! Your advice on opening ports appears to have worked.....I did, however, have to do it twice! My only hope is that It works after I reeboot. Thank you once again, Ian Mac |
Thanks!!! the patch worked like a charm!!!!! I've been without limewire for a month, and thanks to you, I'm on the road again!!!! Regards |
Connection Hi. I tried to follow the 3 steps. I cant get Step 2. When I loaded LW, I was asked if I wanted the program to operate through the firewall and I said yes. Still, I can't make a connection. How can I get Step 2 to happen? Please help...I miss my LW!!! Thanks much! |
Aaargh, it won't work. I've tried everything, deleting all sorts of files in my registry (I know, that's not very smart :p), reinstalling LW, downloading the patch, adding ports in Windows Firewall,... Nothing works! And the strange thing is: the first 2 times that I started LW (the very first time that I had downloaded the program) it went directly to excellent connection. I thank everybody for the suggestions here on this forum, but nothing works. Has anybody a clue wat should be the problem... ? ;) :( |
I ran 4224 patch and it said something to the effect that I "revised a Windows file which could lead to unstability. Restore the file back to the original". I declined. What should I have done? |
Thanks Zap, the solution worked immediately |
"SP2 & Limewire: relax, it works" Tried all the suggestions. Nothing helped. Saw Zap's September posting. Added the two ports and installed the suggested download. Voilá, indeed. BTW, enabling the 2 programs and adding the ports alone didn't do it. But with Event ID 4226 it runs flawlessly. Not sure how one finds things in the forum, so will post the relevent info. Zap, if you're reading, grazie mille! "1. I installed the "Event ID 4226" patch from http://www.lvllord.de/?url=tools --which did not help on its own, but I don't think its current installation is crucial to the solution. All I know is Limewire's connection quality is now "excellent" and files are uploading and downloading as before SP2. 2. The first time Limewire runs, the Windows Firewall should prompt to enable 2 programs: "javaw" and "<installation_path>\LimeWire.exe". Enable these 2 apps to pass the firewall when prompted. 3. Per Limewire's own instructions ( http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml ) go to Start | Control Panel | Windows Firewall and "Add port..." 6346 twice with the default scope, once for TCP and once for UDP (the names you give these rules aren't important). PS I've upgrade to Limewire 4.1.5 Beta." ~ Blacky |
SP2 Firewall not on?? I did install the xp service pack 2 but I don't have the firewall on. I have a router with the port forwarded but I still cannot connect. Use to have the highest quality, infact was an ultra. Any idea why? |
Recheck your settings. Apprently SP2 changes a no. of the settings. |
