Default Limewire not getting through firewall

I'm having a problem with limewire 4.0.8, I was using it fine for a few weeks and then all of a sudden i started geting messages that i didn't have a connection to the internet lime waire was being blocked by the firewall, running XP SP2. I have made no chages to the firewalls on XP or norton, I've checked to see that limewire is allowed through on both FW's, I've even shut them down 1 at time to isolate the problem but no luck, when I start LW it says conecting and appears to start downloads in queue but a after a few minutes its give the firewall warning again, I've delete the .LIMEWIRE folder a few times but nothing. if anyone has any helpful suggestions please let me know, otherwise I will have try some other software. 1st I though it was maybe limewire doing this so that I would buy their LW pro. but after reading the this forum I'm not sure anymore.

Whatever! If you want to buy altrenative p2p apps also read their forums 1st! This forum is for that minor % that has some problems. For a list of gnutella clients that are connecting this hour, see http://www.limewire.com/english/content/uastats.shtml (top right.) The fact is, most p2p apps suffer the same issues. If you have difficulty with one you'll probably have just as much difficulty with another. There's exceptions where one app doesn't run well on a particular person's system.

Do an incoming test (click this link for explanation) If you have the patience, the members of the forum will try to assist you in sorting out your issues. But that's up to you.

Tell us about your connection. What type & brands & models of devices are you using? ie: modems, routers, etc. Where are you connecting from; home, work, school, etc.? Did you update to SP2 before or after you started having difficulties? Have you tried the beta 4.1.8 (english version not international installer!)?

Default Firewall problem

I am having trouble with what I believe to be a firewall problem. I am running XP professional, and using a Billion ADSL firewall router. I have LW 4.0.8 running.

I tried the test suggested by Lord of the Rings and received a "false" response. I then followed the link to the LW page regarding firewalls and tried to open a port following those instructions. I don't have the Advanced tab showing and therefore am unable to make any changes to settings etc.

Is there any way I can configure my Network Connections etc so that I can see this tab? I have XP Administrator rights to this pc.

Thanks

aikiburner: Which model of a Billion modem do you have? I think sometime back I saw a reference to your tab issue. I'll see if I can find it. Meanwhile see this: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...vanced+and+tab or perhaps this: Go to Control Panel, select Network Connections, highlight your connection, select "Change Settings of This Connection, select the advanced tab

Thanks for the prompt reply! It is a Billion 740GE/741GE.

Since posting, I have taught myself about the Registry and regedit. As a result, I have managed to unhide the Advanced tab by changing some of the registry values. It was showing as uncleared - I then proceeded to set up the two Gnutella services as suggested. While I got a sense of achievement in all of this, unfortunately it hasn't seemed to help, although I am about to clear those services and restart.

It definitely sounds as though you will need to forward a port on your modem. See both instructions for Billion 740GE port forwarding & also the instructions for LW port forward with sample image Oh you did mention the Billion 741 port forwarding so I'm not sure which one applies. Probably the 1st since that's a GE.

took a different approach - ditched my adsl router and bought one that is supported by my isp. All of a sudden I have excellent connection, without any aggravation. Thanks for your help.
