![]() I've been using Limewire for sometime now and have not experienced any difficulties, until now. When I try to start up Limewire it sits at connecting for a minute then an error message pops up that says, "Your machine does not appear to have an active Internet connection or a firewall is blocking Limewire from accessing the internet. Limewire will automatically keep trying to connect you to the network unless you select 'Disconnect' from the file menu." Obviously, my internet connection is working since I've found my way here. Plus my AIM works so, its not my internet. I guess its a problem with a firewall, but I currently have my Windows Firewall switched to off...i even tried turning it on and having limewire as an exception, but it still doesnt work. I dont think i have any other firewalls... I have windows XP and i'm on a LAN at my college. It has nothing to do with the college, it was working before and it works for other people. Please help, assisstance is greatly appreciated. Thanks. |

![]() If you're sure your college hasn't changed their policy then, make sure your firewalls are setup properly to allow 100% access for p2p use. See here: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml You can also do 2 other things: Delete your LW Preferences folder called .limewire found here: C:/Documents And Settings/your_username/.limewire And update your Java to Java 1.5 (take the JRE) See how you go. By the way, all forums have rules & it'd help if you read ours: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/announ...?s=&forumid=29 b/c you posted in the wrong forum section & ignored ALL the Stickies which said don't post here including the forum rules. |

![]() Well, I did as you said and I can now connect to Limewire. Now, there is another problem. Downloads go EXTREMELY slow. 1KB/sec. for files that are only 2500 kb. Before (prior to my connection issues) this size of a file would take only a few minutes. As of right now, my connection is Turbo-Charged.... I'm pretty sure my connection is T1, at least thats what I set it as in Limewire. I'm on a college network, so thats what I think it is. please, help me out again! Thanks for the assisstance. |

![]() LetsGoPens: Many colleges block p2p use nowadays so you're lucky! But you may need to force ip. See: Force IP instructions & sample image Also do this check: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ & it should say test page was a success. Next do this test: Bug Report instructions & sample image & tell us if it's True/false. Try optimising LW: A well set-up LW can start to automatically continue its dwnlding after it's settled down perhaps 2 out of 3 times you open LW. Optimising LW & Maximising Uplds & Dwnlds A (1st post only) & also Part B which is even better & last & least are search & dwnld hints. |

![]() I was getting that error message, too, and updated the firewall connection as per the LimeWire site instructions to get around it. That didn't fully work and so I deleted the .limewire file in Local Disk/Documents and Setting/User. Then I changed setting not to connect on starting and got rid of the tips pop-up box. Plus, I had the previous version and installed the most current version. Not sure if that made any difference, but it's worth a try. So far I've gotten a pretty good connection and have gotten the "your computer" message once, but it seems to have worked itself out for the moment. What I've also noticed is that even though that message comes up, songs are still downloading ![]() We've installed Mozilla as an additional browser and I thought that might have been the problem, but so far, ok. |
