Can't/won't connect

I am a newbie to LimeWire and just have installed it on my work computer. It installed perfectly and will open, the problem I seem to have is it will only come up "connecting" but never connects. I am running Windows 2000 Professional on a network here at work (maybe LAN??) I have looked and looked for firewall options but can't seem to find them. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi andyshowfan

It really would help if you could tell us your connection setup. If you're on a lan are you the 1st in line or ? Try very hard to find out what modem & router brand name & model number you use. Oh I just realised you're connecting from work. You may need to force ip within LW: Force IP instructions & sample image Try & find out if you can if there's a firewall. If you're connecting from work it's hard to imagine there won't be some kind of firewall/NAT router involved.

Update your Java to 1.5 (take the JRE)

Change your options to manual connect. And then go to File & select connect. To find them go here & untick the option box: windows: Tools>Options>Connections
mac osx: LW Prefs>Connections

I am connecting to the network with a "Realtek RTL8139(A)-based PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter" I also tried forcing the connection as you laid out in the previous post. I am still only getting the "connecting" message.

Realtek RTL8139 is for lan isn't it?

Change LW to manually connect not auto connect (LW's menu Tools>Options>Connection & untick option box & press both Apply & OK buttons.) Then go to File menu & choose connect. Wait up to an hour for LW to settle down. Any difference?

An hour does seem like a long time I know. After that, if still no success go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ & it should say your test page was a success. If not then we'll see what can be done.

Attica: Try leaving LW on for some time, say evaen up to an hour & see if it connects. If yes, do this check for us: Bug Report instructions & sample image And report back whether your result is True/False.

Also can you tell us what type of connection you have. What modem/router brand name & model number(s) are these? Which Operating System version do you have (Windows 98, etc.)? DDid you install XP SP2?

i have a toshiba pcx2000 cable modem 4mbps im on xp and no i dont have service pack 2 because both times ive installed it i had to restore my computer im going to try to wait until i connect ill see how it goes thnx for the help and that thing told me false

Lord of the Rings November 28th, 2004 04:12 PM

Is the actual model no. Toshiba WRC-1000? You are getting a false response which means something is blocking your access for LW if only partially. Set ALL your firewalls to allow LW access with instructions here: ttp://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml
Many adsl & dsl modems nowadays use NAT which is comparable with firewalls in that it blocks most of your ports. If you can be more specific with your modem details then hopefully we can clear that up. ;)

NAT checker Go to that site & ignore the top text in red! If there's a section below in grey, tell us what it says.?? (This test is not always valid for everybody.)
