Unhappy Please, please help, not connecting,

Ok, here is what I have and have done:

I have:
- Windows XP
- Service Pack 2
- Limewire 4.2.6
- Firewall: McAfee
- LAN (if that's anything)
- router: Netgear, model: FS105
- and am connecting from dorm

This is what I have done:
- I have looked throughout this forum for any tips, ideas, tricks(none of which have worked)
- added limewire/gnutella to a list of programs classified as "exceptions" for McAfee and the LAN firewall, something to do w/ TCP/UCP port 6346
- reinstalled Limewire (2x)
- disabled the "tips" popup box on the start up (a suggestion by one of the people here)
- disabled the "connect on startup" (something like that), another suggestion
- some other things, nothing seems to work!!!

I feel like I've done my homework, but I guess I missed something with all the problems that seem to exist.

Please, please Help!!!

Default in addition. . .

And I keep getting this message that says:

"Your computer does not appear to have an active Internet connection or a firewall is blocking Limewire from the internet, please check your connection or firewall settings and then select 'Connect' from the File menu to connect Limewire to the network"

When I AM connected to the network, and I chose to "unblock" Limewire when the Security Alert prompted me.
and I've checked the firewall like a billion times.

Nowadays that has an ominous sound to it b/c so many schools block p2p use now. But, that may not be your problem.

Some high speed modems/routers use nat which is a type of internal firewall. If yours does you will need to forward a port for port 6346. You can either (a) ask your isp if they will help you open a port for 6346 (b) use the closest example you can find to yours to set yours from HERE (click on link) & choose a model from the 3rd row from left under Netgear. Just click the model in brown text (yes your model is not listed.) You will also need to set up a Static ip so see the link for it.

After forwarding a port you will need to force ip within LW: Force IP instructions & sample image

Let's hope your problem is not SP2 related.

Which ISP do you go thru?

Default up and down, up and down

hmmm, it's not working again
in the previous post I said I went to the links,
well, I went to them that's about it,
so now that LW isn't connecting again I'm sort of back where I was.

I set up the static ip address thing, but I didn't do the port forwarding thing (since LW was starting to connect at that time), and now I've tried to port forward according to the website, in the instructions it tells me to type in my ip address in the address box thing in a new browser, but everytime I type it in (or the default ip address 192.168.0.1) the search page search.yahoo.com keeps coming up and either tells me they couldn't find this or the domain is available for only $9.99! *sigh*

Since my router isn't listed a went a random one under the Netgear column, I don't know which model is closest to mine.
The instructions say "You should see the Setup Wizard" when you type in the ip address, but not in my case.

I'm quite "computer illiterate" so once again is there something I missed?

Wink

Hi katsak,
I had the same problem with my static IP address, in the end I called my ISP & their tech support helped me. Maybe you could try that, once your static IP is set up you should have no trouble with port fwd.

Your Netgear FS105 manual should tell you what the login no. is & should also tell you whether & how it can have ports forwarded.
