Default another connection gone bad

hello, i am new to the forum thing, but after reading all the posts and instructions on how to fix the problem, i still cannot connect. i have one question that i have not seen addressed here in the forum, but it could be because i haven't looked in the correct place. anyway, the very first thing i tried was to go to the LW home page to connection problems. there, it listed several steps to take to help the problem. in one step, it mentions typing 127.0.0.1 in th ip address box in the advanced tab of the firewall settings under properties in the network connections in control panel. (hope that made sense). anyhow, when i type that ip in the box, click okay and try LW again nothing. so when i go back to control panel etc. to get to the same box, lo and behold, it has changed back to some weird configuration of letters and numbers? can anyone identify this and help?
also, after LW has been left open to connect, i get an error box telling me there is something wrong with the isp? i think.. anyway, i have to restart the computer to get rid of the error box?

thanks

cyn
