Direct Connect

A friend and I were trying to do a direct connect to her computer. We could not find an IP address. It did not show up like mine did. What can we do

It will show what there IP address is. Just have them tell you so you can type it in.

L/W gives you the IP, its just your IP with a port number on it ( i think)

LW will NOT give you your ip address IF you're firewalled. And if you're firewalled it's extremely difficult to Direct Connect. See: How to Direct Connect, Browse & Chat

IF you're firewalled then you need to configure them. Be that an internal softw one or a connection device such as a modem/router which has an internal one for many high speed models.

Yes, it automatically adds this to your IP, :6346 which i beleive is the port number your getting the file from

Read the link ... it really does depend!!! It doesn't show for everybody!!! Not if they're not properly configured to allow 2 way access thru their firewall(s) for LW.

So How do I get her Firewalls configured correctly?

Well it will help if you or they would provide the following information on there setup.

Operating System and sp (MAC,Win98)
Firewalls
Moden type and model no.
Router type and model no.
Who the Internet Service Provider is

But that only takes into consideration softw firewalls on your computer. Many modems/routers also have internal firewalls.
