![]() I can't connect to LW, and when I start the program a get an error that says, "LW is unable to setup prots to listen for incoming connections, some features of LW many not work as expected." 1. OS is XP 2. firewall is McAfee on standard/default settings (XP is off) 3. 1g ram 4. 140 gb available 5. cable 6. rounter is Linksys BEFW1154 (not v1.50.10) 7. home 8. v4.0.7 (I'll explain later) 9. Charter 10. Not first time on LW, but first time on the computer I'm using. My best guess is that the problem is with Mcafee. The previous computer I used had an older version LW(I'm at work now and don't know what it is specifically), but had no problems connecting. I also using the same router. My computer is actually hooked directly to the router, but another computer in the house has a wireless connection to the router, and has no problem connecting/downloading to LW, so I'm thinking it's not the router, but I haven't checked it because I don't know the password after putting in the ip address. Again, xp firewall is disabled, but after reading the help section about firewalls, I added the ports(TCP/UDP: incoming/outgoing) under my connection(it's the only one I have set up). I also read the McAfee section, which seemed easy, except it has nothing that says "Advanced Tasks or 'Configure network adapters.' The tutorial says for McAfee firewall, but mine is named McAfee firewall plus. I don't know if that makes a difference. I can turn the firewall off in the program or even by ending the process through ctrl+alt+del, but LW still can't connect. I tried adjusting security settings, but that doesn't affect anything, so I just put the settings back to how they were. I did find one section under the firewall that allowed me to open/add ports. I added port 6346, and tested opening ports 137-139(NETBIOS), and ports 20-21(file transfer protocal, I think), but nothing changed, so I closed the ports back. The reason I have LW v4.0.7 is because I can't go to www.limewire.com from my computer(or any other link of the site). It essentially times out when I try, but doesn't give any indication that it was intentionally blocked. This also occurs with other websites. For example, sometimes I can go to google and sometimes I can't, but even when I can't I can still go to yahoo, etc. Scanning other threads, I just learned about the http://www3.limewire.com/6346/. I haven't tried it yet, but I'm willing to bet the page wouldn't display. LW itself seems set up correctly. It has port set to 6346 and selected the force ip option. I haven't tried uninstalling McAfee yet. I would like to keep it if possible, but if there's no alternative, then I'll trash it. Any help would be much appreciated. |

![]() Well, last night I tried to going to: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/. And to no surprise, the page couldn't display. It was the standard page that just advised to check settings, security, etc. Also, just wondering, have I not been clear enough or is it just a case of "I don't know what the problem is, but it sounds like it sucks for you?" |

![]() The 6346 port check page has been down for a few days . . . not sure if it will be back up anytime soon. However, since you can't even browse the net easily, the problem is beyond LW. Check with Charter about visiting websites: they should be able to help you diagnose that problem first. |

![]() Thanks, but I doubt it's Charter. There's another computer in the house that doesn't have any of the problems. Of course, it essentially has nonexistent security on it, so it's busting at the seams with adware/spyware. I'm going to try fooling around with McAfee a little more, and if nothing comes of it, I'll probably just uninstall it. Thanks again. |

![]() cubiehole, I am new to this forum, but I am having the very same problem you describe. Same OS, same system, same other computer working fine. Did you ever solve the problem? I have done all the steps you recounted, too..ands still not port connection. Look forward to your response...if I can find where I at again! Mike |
