limewirehatesme is flying high
Angry Someone help me before i SNAP.

Alright this is my second time writing this out so excuse me if it seems rushed...

I've had limewire before and there was no real problems. But i had to download another version because my whole computer got cleaned out. So everything was fine up until a few days ago.

I downloaded two albums from a artist late last week. I also had a few breezeblock mixes from the same artist. I didn't get them from limewire but i had them in the same folder as the one holding the two albums. I assume this is the same folder people can download off of me from when on limewire.

Last night i was listening to the albums and mixes without a problem. This morning when i logged on and went to go listen to one of the breezeblock sets they were gone. All sets and both albums from this artist were completey gone. I searched my computer and sure enough nothing from that artist was found. And believe me i had a lot of his ****. I checked my bin just incase and no fear, it wasn't there.

i checked files i had downloaded previos to those albums and after the fact, all were there. The only files missing were those related to the artist.

What the hell happened? Did the download police break into my files and remove them? I don't know if this is possible but something is seriously strange about this whole situation and thats the only real explanation i can think of.

Now tonight i decided to replace my limewire with a new one because every time i went to download something by that artist it would get right around 90% finished and freeze OR it would say download was complete but it would never show up in my downloads. It just wasn't there.

Now with the new limewire i get the message " could not move to library." ?

Another issue i have, and this one is really annoying. Currently i have one limewire on my F drive and another on my C. The one of F just pissed me off so i said **** it and dl'd another. The one of F refuses, there is no way in HELL that thing wil uninstall. It gets to a certin point and says uninstallation could not complete due to error in limewire. Now with this new one on C i can't get rid of it either.
Why won't they uninstall? Im pretty sure this is a sign of a virus, no?

So i guess at the end of this rant i have 3 questions/problems.

1. What happened to my files and how did they go missing? Is it possible someone did actually remove them?

2. Why does it say download is complete but nothing ever shows up in my library?

3. Why can't i remove either of the limewires i have on my system OR do you know of some way i can force them off.

Thanks for your time and help!

- Frustrated.

i guess i should add i am a windows xp user.

Not a good idea having more than one version on your computer. Sometimes one will run in the background whilst the other is open & thus strange things can happen. Next time you open LW, hold down Control, Delete & Alt keys & go to Process Manager & see how many times limewire is listed.

For LW on Drive C & if that's where you save your files, go to Tools>Options>Saving & press Default button & press apply.

I have a suspicion you've got your folders mixed up. I have LW installed on Drive F & save to Drive G without any problems.

You need admin permissions to install & uninstall. Make sure you have permisions to do this & save to where you want to.

2. Go to Tools>Options>Saving & re-check your Save location. Make sure this is correct. Even re-select it & press apply. Now go to Tools>Options>Sharing & add that same folder to your shared list & press the apply button. (By the way, LW 4.2.x had this bug so get rid of it if that's the version or update ... Also there was a security problem with that version up to 4.8. So make sure you've got version 4.8.1

3. It depends on which version of LW you have. For versions 4.4 & earlier you use the Add/Remove Programs control panel to remove it. For later LW versions go to Start menu >Programs>LW & select Uninstaller. *** Before you do this, Control, Delete & Alt keys & go to Process Manager & make sure there are NO limewires listed. If they are then kill the process. You cannot remove LW if it's still active.

Thanks for the info on deleting.

I've managed to get the one off of my c drive but as for F, it still won't budge. It starts to uninstal and then freezes and says not responding. Then it seems to do something strange to my whole system for a few moments as the bottom task bar totally disappears and takes a while to come back.

Im still curious as to what happened to my files. I know i was saving to the right one, everything else is still in it's place. And as i said i did a search on my whole system and there are no more files containing the name. Im not a computer wiz but i would be able to figure out if it was a matter of saving to the wrong location.

Im not trying to place blame for anything, i more would like to know if it is actually possible that someone can remove them?
Unless i slept walked into my office, turned on my computer, went into my files and deleted 2 album folders and 2 mix sets there is no other explanation for what has happened. And to my knowledge i don't sleep walk

Has there ever been any reports of files going missing on people before?

Thanks again.

No not really. Not unless their LW preferences were corrupt. And it might be an idea to delete your prefs. I'm just wondering how you manage to run 2 versions of LW unless they share the same preferences or you log in under a different name. Try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Fixes for Limewire Make sure you Java is up to date also.

(Well actually I managed somehow to have a user account set up to a different partition.)

Does anybody else have access to your computer?

Not sure about the uninstaller problem. Is that uninstaller or the control panel you're using to remove it. It could be confused with 2 versions of lw on the machine. That happened to me before which is why I haven't tried having 2 versions again.
