i've read through all the posts on proxies, and i have finally found a method that works for me 100% of the time. my isp (vista media in oxford, mississippi) has blocked and filtered every single port from 1026 - 65535. i can't change isp's because i live in an apartment complex that provides internet for us and will not allow us to use another service.

so, here is the solution i finally came up with. i am running the latest version of limewire in windows xp with no firewall. obviously, the isp can't block and filter port 80 because then i wouldn't even be able to browse. so i configure limewire to listen to port 80 and manual port forward to 80. then i use an http proxy at port 80. this made my speeds jump from 0 - 1 kbs to 10 - 30 kbs.

i just used an anon http proxy from one of the free proxy lists i found on google. after i connect, i change the settings back to 'no proxy' but leave it listening to port 80 and manual forwarding to port 80.

when my dl speeds start to slow, i just pick another http proxy and reconfigure. so far i've had to do that once in the hour that i've had limewire up and running.

i have been searching for a solution since my isp began blocking and filtering back in january, and this is the only thing that has worked. i think it's a very logical solution. in any event, i just wanted to pass it on so maybe others who have run out of options as well can try. cheers.

- jessica
