If your problem is not resolved by a search of the forums, please take the next step and post in the appropriate forum. There are many members who will be glad to help. If you are new to the world of file sharing please do not be shy! Everyone was ‘new’ when they first started. When posting, please include details for: Your Operating System ....... Your version of your Gnutella Client (* this is important for helping solve problems) ....... Your Internet connection (56K, Cable, DSL) ....... The exact error message, if one pops up Any other relevant information that you think may help ....... Try to make your post descriptive, specific, and clear so members can quickly and efficiently help you. To aid helpers in solving download/upload problems, LimeWire and Frostwire users must specify whether they are downloading a torrent file or a file from the Gnutella network. Members need to supply these details >>> System details - help us to help you (click on blue link) Moderators There are senior members on the forums who serve as Moderators. These volunteers keep the board organized and moving. Moderators are authorized to: (in order of increasing severity) Move posts to the correct forums. Many times, members post in the wrong forum. These off-topic posts may impede the normal operation of the forum. Edit posts. Moderators will edit posts that are offensive or break any of the House Rules. Delete posts. Posts that cannot be edited to comply with the House Rules will be deleted. Restrict members. This is one of the last punishments before a member is banned. Restrictions may include placing all new posts in a moderation queue or temporarily banning the offender. Ban members. The most severe punishment. Three or more moderators or administrators must agree to the ban for this action to occur. Banning is reserved for very severe offenses and members who, after many warnings, fail to comply with the House Rules. Banning is permanent. Please choose the correct section for your problem. 7. If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. Please do not respond directly to the member - a moderator will do what is required. 8. Any impersonation of a forum member in any mode of communication is strictly prohibited and will result in banning. 9. Multiple copies of the same post will not be tolerated. Post your question, comment, or complaint only once. There is no need to express yourself more than once. Duplicate posts will be deleted with little or no warning. Keep in mind a forum censor may temporarily automatically hold up your post, if you do not see your post, do not post again, it will be dealt with by a moderator within a reasonable time. Authors of multiple copies of same post may be dealt with by moderators within their discrete judgment at the time which may result in warning or infraction points, depending on severity as adjudged by the moderators online. 10. Posts should have descriptive topics. Vague titles such as "Help!", "Why?", and the like may not get enough attention to the contents. 11. Do not divulge anyone's personal information in the forum, not even your own. This includes e-mail addresses, IP addresses, age, house address, and any other distinguishing information. Don´t use eMail addresses in your nick. Reiterating, do not post your email address in posts. This is for your own protection. 12. Signatures may be used as long as they are not offensive or sexually explicit or used for commercial advertising. Commercial weblinks cannot be used under any circumstances and will result in an immediate ban. 13. Dual accounts are not allowed. Cannot explain this more simply. Attempts to set up dual accounts will most likely result in a banning of all forum accounts. 14. Video links may only be posted after you have a tally of two forum posts. Failure to show that you have read the forum rules may result in forum rules breach infraction points or warnings awarded against you which may later total up to an automatic temporary or permanent ban. Supplying system details is a prerequisite in most cases, particularly with connection or installation issues.  connection problem I have tried all the suggestions over the past 3 days . I have 1 bar and brick wall over firewall. System windows XP Ram 520? Hard Disc avail 15 gb conxn type DSL router linksys wireless g 2.4ghz connect from house limewire 4.14.10 Java 6 3 isp -canadasurfs simple test - internet explorer cannot connect to this web page not sharing with other computers used limewire about 1 year ago - worked great . Just recently tried to use again brick wall - yes router - I dont know . Set up as standard operating I believe I have McAffe firewall and antivirus and firewall and windows firewall I live in Canada I have uninstalled and reinstalled limewire and java . I have tried resetting parameters. Does anybody know how to get this working??!!  |

| Don't use 2 software firewalls at once. Choose 1, configure it to allow LW & turn the other one off. In LW tools > options > advanced > firewall config. Change LW's listening port to something in the range of 49152 - 65535 (eg 65000) > apply > ok. When you reinstalled your Java, did you remove any other Java versions before installing the new one? If you can find your router model in the list here, try port forwarding. PortForward.com - Free Help Setting up Your Router or Firewall Click on your router model & then choose LimeWire from the list of programs. Then you'll see step-by-step instructions for port forwarding. If setting up a static IP is part of the instructions, don't miss that step. | birdy I am not very computer literate therefore I like to be ablle to undo what I tried ,if necessay. Your suggestion to change listening port to 65000.- Didn't work so I changed it back. I went to port forwarding and would like to try this - but if it doesn't work - How do I undo it? It seems a lot of people are having connection problems. Why is this? |

| You should be able to remove any port forwarding rules that you've created, by logging back into your router's setup pages. Mine has the option to add a new rule or remove an existing one If you don't want to use the static IP address that you've set up, just go back to the TCP/IP properties page (see the static IP setup instructions) & check the radio button to obtain an IP address automatically. |

| i have the same problems HELP PLEASE Birdy I have read most of your post on this matter and have tried the deleting thing many times but when i tried to put in the gnutella file my limewire folder dont have a gnutella file... please help...ty in advance 1. OS version? Win XP 2. What firewalls you have? Windows And it is set to allow LW 3. How much ram? 504 MB 4. Hard Disk space available? 53.5 5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) Cable 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?Router Netgear WGR614, dont know on modem 7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)? Apartment but i have before and it worked fine 8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. LW 4.14.10, Java 1.6.0_03 9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)? Cable One Internet Explorer 10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? When i go there it says cant display webpage. 11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. No 12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. I have used LW off and on for 3 years 13. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? Ummm dont know greek to me 15. What security programs are you using (antivirus etc)? Some people might not be aware that their security suite includes a firewall  AVG16. What country are you living in? | It's not a good sign when the port test doesn't work, it can mean that an ISP is blocking certain ports. I can't find any info to say that Cable One block p2p but apparently they do shape p2p bandwidth. Try changing ports. In LW tools > options > advanced > firewall config. Change LW's listening port to something in the range of 49152 - 65535 (eg 65000) > apply > ok. You can try any ports in this range. A few people have said that there was no gnutella.net file within their preferences folder. If there's not one there, just copy & paste the file that you downloaded into the LimeWire folder anyway. Remember, LW has to be properly closed at the time. You could also try port forwarding for your router. The instructions are here. LW's listening port, port in the 'manual port forward' box & port forwarded within the router setup should all be the same number You could also check with the building's manager to see whether there's any firewall associated with the apartment complex's internet setup. |
