Exclamation Firewall Won't go away

I just installed LimeWire last night and cannot seem to get the firewall to go away. I tried everything the FAQ suggested. I even turned off all firewall protection just to see if it worked. When i turn on Lime the little icon in the corner shows that i have a firewall up and thus i cannot search for anything. Please Help???

I can give you a few instructions for configuring your XP firewall. All are basically the same but explained differently.
A: (advisable not to have 2 active firewalls b/c they can interfere with each other); Firewall configuration instructions (click on link)
B: Setting Up WinXP Pro FireWall
C: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=33233

Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?

Can you give us a total desciption of your set up:
1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. How much ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
9. Who is your isp provider?

This could be the issue! Many schools nowadays block or filter p2p sharing b/c it uses up too much of their bandwidth which they pay a lot of money for.

1. Disable XP's firewall (go to the control panel, double click on Windoze Firewall, check the disable box) & instead just use Norton FW; *Configuring Norton Internet Security

Try this & see if it makes any difference.

Default Schools & P2P

Dear Dana M

If you read through this forum you will find that lots of people want children blocks put on LW, people downloading adult material by mistake, viruses Trojans, false files, etc.

Because the P2P network is a sometime chaotic and not a children friendly place, I believe a school is not the right place to run P2P software unless you are experienced in what you are doing.

Running LW on your own home PC is one thing but running it on a school or work computer could cause your employer to start disciplinary action against you.

UK Bob

Do you above port test. I think you forgot/missed it. (The simple test.) It will only take you 5 seconds to do. lol If you can't reach the page, then tell us. If possible also tell us any connection devices you're using if you use any.
