Moderators

There are senior members on the forums who serve as Moderators. These volunteers keep the board organized and moving.
Moderators are authorized to: (in order of increasing severity)
Move posts to the correct forums. Many times, members post in the wrong forum. These off-topic posts may impede the normal operation of the forum.
Edit posts. Moderators will edit posts that are offensive or break any of the House Rules.
Delete posts. Posts that cannot be edited to comply with the House Rules will be deleted.
Restrict members. This is one of the last punishments before a member is banned. Restrictions may include placing all new posts in a moderation queue or temporarily banning the offender.
Ban members. The most severe punishment. Three or more moderators or administrators must agree to the ban for this action to occur. Banning is reserved for very severe offenses and members who, after many warnings, fail to comply with the House Rules. Banning is permanent. Bans cannot be removed by the moderators and probably won't be removed by the administration.

The Rules

1. Warez, copyright violation, or any other illegal activity may NOT be linked or expressed in any form. Topics discussing techniques for violating these laws and messages containing locations of web sites or other servers hosting illegal content will be silently removed. Multiple offenses will result in consequences. File names are not required to discuss your issues. If filenames are copyright then do not belong on these forums & will be edited out or post removed. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement.

2. Spamming and excessive advertising will not be tolerated. Commercial advertising is not allowed in any form, including using in signatures.

3. There will be no excessive use of profanity in any forum.

4. There will be no racial, ethnic, or gender based insults, or any other personal attacks.

5. Pictures may be attached to posts and signatures if they are not sexually explicit or offensive. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement.

6. Remember to post in the correct forum. Take your time to look at other threads and see where your post will go. If your post is placed in the wrong forum it will be moved by a moderator. There are specific Gnutella Client sections for LimeWire, Phex, FrostWire, BearShare, Gnucleus, Morpheus, and many more. Please choose the correct section for your problem.

7. If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. Please do not respond directly to the member - a moderator will do what is required.

8. Any impersonation of a forum member in any mode of communication is strictly prohibited and will result in banning.

9. Multiple copies of the same post will not be tolerated. Post your question, comment, or complaint only once. There is no need to express yourself more than once. Duplicate posts will be deleted with little or no warning. Keep in mind a forum censor may temporarily automatically hold up your post, if you do not see your post, do not post again, it will be dealt with by a moderator within a reasonable time. Authors of multiple copies of same post may be dealt with by moderators within their discrete judgment at the time which may result in warning or infraction points, depending on severity as adjudged by the moderators online.

10. Posts should have descriptive topics. Vague titles such as "Help!", "Why?", and the like may not get enough attention to the contents.

11. Do not divulge anyone's personal information in the forum, not even your own. This includes e-mail addresses, IP addresses, age, house address, and any other distinguishing information. Don´t use eMail addresses in your nick. Reiterating, do not post your email address in posts. This is for your own protection.

12. Signatures may be used as long as they are not offensive or sexually explicit or used for commercial advertising. Commercial weblinks cannot be used under any circumstances and will result in an immediate ban.

13. Dual accounts are not allowed. Cannot explain this more simply. Attempts to set up dual accounts will most likely result in a banning of all forum accounts.

14. Video links may only be posted after you have a tally of two forum posts. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam.

15. Failure to show that you have read the forum rules may result in forum rules breach infraction points or warnings awarded against you which may later total up to an automatic temporary or permanent ban. Supplying system details is a prerequisite in most cases, particularly with connection or installation issues.

Violation of any of these rules will bring consequences, determined on a case-by-case basis.

Thank You! Thanks for taking the time to read these forum guidelines. We hope your visit is helpful and mutually beneficial to the entire community.

Default Can't connect, what else!

I was using the free version for a while and my sister bought me the pro version. I was having connection issues with the free version also. I occasionaly get the "turbocharged" light but, mostly it says connecting and also that it appears I have no internet connection which I do have.
Here's some other stuff that may or maynot be related.
I get socket errors frequently when I try to use outlook express. I understand this is a server error?
My security is Norton, Microsoft and I use Adaware every time I shutdown. My actual connection speeds (dialup) have varied for the last 3 weeks from 14-50kps. My ISP convinced me it was the modem so I replaced it. No better. I can get faster speeds very late at night or very early in the morning. I assume it's because less people are on the I JUST GOT KNOCKED OFF AS I WAS TYPING THIS AND MY SPEED DROPPED TO 40 kps. Man I'm pissed but I don't know who to for or what ever!
Anyway, I've been trying to "ping" but it times out and I find out today that my ISP doesn't allow users to ping. Viruses?
I was a mainframe computer operator for about 10 years before PC's were around and that taught me to not believe in coincidences.
Just before the weekend, I sent an email to Limewire about my connection problems and all they said was my email didn't match the purchasers email. Duh! I told them my sister bought it for me.
Funny thing, I connected "turbocharged" for sat and most of sunday. But here it is Monday afternoon, and I haven't heard a word from them and I left my Limewire running from 7 this morning until just a little after 6 pm. CONNECTING!
I really like this thing when it works but, really, this is some bulls__t. I'm just going to trash it if it's this much trouble.

I forgot to add something.
Sometimes my machine says connecting but it's downloading 3-4 items from multiple hosts on each item. What the __ck is up with that? I check my "connections" but it's like a revolving door spinning fast.
Is it Limewire or this network in general? Does anyone really have a clue?
Does Limewire respond to any of your pleas for help? Not mine.

I downloaded winmx this morning and have been using it since I got it. I don't know why it's not preferred, it works great. I would like to see Limewire working since my sister paid for it. If anyone knows what to do to get it working, please let me know. I wonder if an isp can block certain filesharing apps and not others?
I'm still suspicious of my isp since they won't allow me to ping.

Yes isp's can & some do filter or block specific p2p sharing programs or they can target a particular user or apply it universally. They use special programs to help them detect these types of programs & users.

There is a chance your sister didn't get LW from the official LW site which is why pro support doesn't recognise your email address. Either that or your 6 mth support has finished.

I'm a little confused here. You're refering to your speeds in kbps. Whereas LW shows speeds in KB/s. So you're using dial up connection right?

After connecting with LW your connections on your connection window should be stable.

Did you configure your firewall so it allows LW full access (advisable not to have 2 active firewalls b/c they can interfere with each other); remember XP has its own firewall. I'd recommend disabling it: go to the control panel, double click on Windoze Firewall, check the disable box. And then just keeping your Norton Firewall active & properly configured: *Configuring Norton Internet Security

Which isp are you using?

After starting LW, let it settle for 10-20 mins before using. If you're using dial up, then "don't" use the Resume/Find Sources on all your incomplete files or else this probably will affect LW's connection quality. Only apply it to one or 2 at a time. With a decent break in time between the next one or 2.

Hey, thank's for responding.
If you have pro, they ask for your email and password. I used my sisters email and the password she gave me. It recognized it and I proceeded to change it per their own instructions. It worked and I proceeded to send my connection problem request. They simply replied to my cry for help by saying my email didn't match, they suck. Surely they would have a record of changes. If not, they really suck. By the looks of this forum, I'd say they really have a problem and shouldn't be charging anybody.
I use Microsoft anti-spyware not the firewall.
Btw, I noticed WinMX uses ports tcp 6699 and udp 6257. Those aren't the same ones Limewire uses are they?
Don't get me wrong, I really like Limewire. I am just pissed about their acknowledgement about my problems. My ISP could very well be blocking but, do you think ALL of these people on here are being blocked? My ISP gives me all the standard runarounds per the usual suspects so, my pc is staying connected till hell freezes over or the power goes out!!!
Maybe the Recording industry has employed a few hackers!!!
Oh yeah, I thought kbps and kb/s meant the same thing, kilobytes per second?
Anyway, maybe I'll get it working. Someday.
Haha, here's a pic of me calling my ISP!

LW uses port 6346 by default. So you'd need to keep that port open in any firewall or other softw that stops incoming.

kbps = kilo bits per second.
KB/s = Kilo Bytes per second.
There's 8 bits in a byte. So 56 kbps = 7 KB/s

WinMX uses a different network from LW. Some people like it some not. I've never used it so I can't comment above what feedback I've received. I believe it suffers from long queues. I have noticed however, like most p2p sharing programs, there's also scam sites that sell winmx that pretend to be the official version or charge for the free version. Just google winmx & see all the ads & you'll see what I mean.
WinMX runs on a closed P2P Network. And with many less users.

We need more details if you want to sort out your LW problems. Many connection problem posts here list the questions we need answers to.

Oh and about the no. of connection or other problems here. Yes there's a few but not all for the same reason. Considering over a million people downld LW every week, the % that post problems here is relatively/considerably small.

I solved my problem.
I was wondering why WinMX worked and Limewire would not and it came to me that they must use different ports. That was it. When I finished with WinMX this morning, I opened LW and changed the port to 6699 and connected right away!
I don't know what ports are assigned to what apps or anything. I don't know how to change it with Norton but maybe someone else does. Until then, I'll use 6699.
I'm still pissed about the way Limewire treated me when I asked for help. They suck.

I must admit that I too found LW support less than helpful when I first purchased LWPro, in fact I got more help and advice from this forum.

Anyway, time heals.
