We are experiencing temporary server problems again this morning (October 26). We're working hard to fix it. Thanks for your patience.

Fixed my tushie :(

WTF?!? Nothing has been "fixed".

I read the FAQ.
I have tried your suggestions, Ive rewritting the autoconnect hosts, and LW doesen't even *TRY* to connect to any host - it just sits there useless with that infernal read dot next to "connect".
I have been messing with this thing for over two hours ... It worked fine yesterday, now what's the problem? When are you ppl going to do something about it?

PS - Im using a Mac, if it matters.

oooh shirty

if i was you, id ask for my money back !

i am sure things will be sorted soon. i use limewire just about 24/7 and this is the first time in months that i have had any serious problems.

I've used this program for a few months now and have seen it get progressively better overall. This connection issue has been the biggest problem I have encountered as of yet but I trust it will be fixed shortly.
Besides, LimeWire is free and the programmers work very hard to keep it up and running, so give 'em some time and they will get it right.
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK GUYS

cant connect

Not everyone knows that. Not everyone has used LimeWire for months. To new users we need information for veterans like yourselves to make us aware that it indeed is a temporary problem.

I am annoyed because I downloaded it, it worked for a day and a half, now its refusing to connect to anything. In three days its worked less then half the time, and the little time it was connected most downloads didn't finish

I also dont understand something ... if this peer-to-peer filesharing "does not use a central server like Napster" and "cannot be shut down" then why can't we connect?

crohrs October 26th, 2001 02:33 PM

centralized servers

LimeWire doesn't require a centralized server to connect, but it makes things faster and more convenient.

The servers that LW connects to on startup, router.limewire.com and connectX.gnutellanet.com provide you a few initial hosts to connect to. From there, LW can find other hosts and operate completely autonomously. The problem is that router.limewire.com AND connectX.gnutellanet.com are ALL down. That's why we're encouraging people to go to connect3.bearshare.net. But if you know friends who are connected, you can just connect directly to them and everything will be ok. Or if you disable the "Use QuickConnect hosts" option, LW will try to connect to the addresses stored in your gnutella.net file.

Incidentally, our servers appear to be the victim of a "syn flood" denial of service (DoS) attack. Now why would anyone want to do that?

connection problems

@ crohrs
Thanks for posting and taking the time to answer my question - your info was very helpful to me and I think I understand how peer-to-peer filesharing works a little better now.
I don't know any friends who are connected that I can connect to, but with your tip I was able to get connected to "bearshare.net". THANK YOU.
I hope whatever your flood denial is that it's something you can fix soon. I think eBay had something like that about a year ago, it was just awful.
Anyway, Thanks for doing a great job for all of us who use this program :)

DoS atack huh?

That is just wrong. Some stupid punk messing arround. Glad to hear you know what the problem is and that you are working to fix it.
