my really sucky computer has a really sucky dialup connection that runs at a REALLY sucky 34.6kbps if that much. When I'm using limewire(4.8.11 i believe) i set it to use 100% of the bandwidth for downloads but it only ever goes up to 3 , even if i close everything. sometimes 4. is there ANY possible quick and *free* solution to my problem?

i have both a quick and free answer: get dsl and get a new computer (or build one yourself).. youll love it.

k, you use western union right? lol... get a job, read up on what you want and what fits your needs and your budget, find out who provides fast adsl/dsl/cable service, do some research on them and besure they dont filter p2p. then you can afford it youself... that sounds like a better plan than anyone just giving it to you. besides, if you pay for it yourself, youll take better care of it and keep your virus definitions up-to-date aswell as being sure you will do your research on something before you make a commitment to it. just some tips.

You're using dial up right? Well dial up has a maximum of 56 kbps.

Remember that ISP providers quote bandwidth in bps. LW shows speeds in KB/s

bps = bits per second
B/s = bytes per second

8 bits = 1 byte

So divide your 35 kbps by 8 & you get 4.5 KB/s or less. Not to mention dial up users share their bandwith for downld & uplds, unlike broadband & cable. I presume your 35 kbps was via a speed test. So that shows you lose 21 kbps via overhead. All internet connections have some type of overhead. And that's an awful lot for dial up. I used to get 5-7 KB/s for dial up.
