![]() Hi, my DL speed is about 2-8kbps, its absolutely killing me. I have recently switched to cable internet, and ever since i have had to endure excruciating DL speed. My modem is connected via Ethernet Card, i use windows 98, pent 3 @ 500mhz, 196 RAM. don't know if this is useful? I never had a problem with Limewire in the past, with my previous High speed internet connectrion....with the exact same Limewire, and computer. I have no active firewalls on my computer?!?!? I have deleted antivirus program, and still nothing, Limewire initially upon starting indicates a firewall, then it goes away... I have no problem connecting to limewire, i think?? I always have excelleent or better connection strength. I have tried changing ports, preferences, im at my wits end. What the heck is going on??????? Would appreciate any help any of you can give me... Thanks , Scotty |

![]() There are many modem with firewalls. Search your model on google along with the firewall term to see if there is one. Often you can desactivate it or open ports. Ciao

![]() Same problem here with slowness, I can download a mp3 from IE in a 10 th of the time, the highest rate I have seen has been 12 kb, joke, have ADSL XP sp2 and have tried all the fixes mentioned in the connection problems, lucky to get 12kb, I would have thought peer to peer would be much faster, really this hardly worth the bother. I have Spyware Nuker and Etrust antivirus, anyone know if they can cause a slow down, Have enabled all the XP firewall options including TCP and UDP Ports at 6346, disabled auto tips and auto connect, removed .limewire while totally logged out, left modem on for hours no difference. Any ideas? moziman |

![]() Hi hushtool If you have usb ports in your computer install the drivers for them If you haven't already done so Then if the modem can be connected to the usb ports, Do that Install the usb drivers for your modem, or if it didn't come with usb drivers, re-install the modem drivers again, because windows will not recognise the modem till you do. Also you get better surfing/downloading through your usb ports than ethernet connections which were made for office or home networks. Hope This Helps Sgt |

I was running 4.8 and have now just downloaded 4.9 assume its the latest as I was promted on opening limewire. Still getting the same slow download currently but seems on initial testing slightly faster but that could be just be a sweet line. Would you suggest an older version? Also I now have a new graphic on limewire 4.9 indicating a firewall detection. I turned off my XP firewall reebooted and ran limewire again and still the same graphic. I wonder is this just detecting that there is a firewall available or does this mean I have another, maybe at my ADSL ISP or modem itself. I know my ISP does block a lot of sites but wouldn't that just mean no access not slow access? My limewire is the basic not pro by the way but I get all green bars lit. I wonder if anybody could provide me with an average KB/s that they experience using a DSL connection, I have 512 ADSL connection, would be handy for me to benchmark against typical download speeds in Limewire. Using this bandwith test site: http://www.info-techs.com/speedtest50.html I get this result repeateadly: "Your line speed: 4080 Kbps 500 K bytes/sec" The connection is a bit jerky being I am in Thailand and connections are usually cranky, but a drop of that much just doesn't seem right. Also when I downloaded the later version of limewire 4.9 the download speed ranged from 57 - 96 to download that program. The media files I try to down load have never exceeded 20, average now about 4 - 6 KB/s. I have tried experimenting with the speeds/tools/options in limewire but no difference. Any ideas on next steps from here? TIA moziman PS. Please read my earlier post for all the connection solutions I have already tried. PPS. My spyware nuker detects two registry additions since downloading limewire, name "Kazaa" and listed as "Bundles adware programs and reinstalls then after they have been removed" deleting them does nothing as they reinstall on loading limewire, im guessing they are necessary and are resposible for reinstalling the .limewire pref after I delete it. One more quicky have google exelerator beta version running. |

Thanks for your help so far. Ok first thing, this is all the info I can get on my spyware nuker utility the alerts info now past the point of the kaza install: ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- RegisteryKey Desc = HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Magnet RegisteryKey Desc = HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\magnet RegisteryKey$SeCURITY_ATTRIBUTES.class coms/ms/wfc/app RegisteryKey.class coms/ms/wfc/app Version: 3.3.17.2 Definition Database Date: 3/18/2005 10:34:41 AM OS version: Windows XP 5.1.2600 [Service Pack 2] Web Browser Version: IE:6.0.2900.2180; Date/Time: 08/29/2005 13:17:41 Kazaa - Bundleware 953 Bundles adware programs and reinstalls them after they have been removed. Registry Key 55546 HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\magnet Registry Key 55570 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Magnet ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Since I have now updated from limewire source (im guessing) to the newer version limewire not from the reseller site do you want me to delete them to get the alert results? they might not come back if it was the reseller that attatched them. The original site was http://onlinemovieaccess.com/ ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Second part I downloaded WinMX and TEST ran 2 X about 1pm Thai time. First message: "This computer is unable to recieve incoming TCP connections from the internet, and there is nothing we can do about it." Says is not required and will still be able to up and download just larger search results. TCP 6699 UDP 6257 Did as you said and clicked first 20 files of popular artist in winmx and highest I saw was 8,855 bytes p/s down to 623 at the slowest. Most files have gone red 5 green and look to be downloading, maybe not the best time of day for the test, I will try again evening. I did the same test on limewire with the same artist got up to 35 KB/s at one point, drifting about widly but I would gauge an average of 15 KB/s, just checked again and seems to now be holding over 20 most of the time. Is that good? better than before for sure and obviously down to my downloading method but I still can't see how you could download a movie (for example) like that, would take days surely? Anyway a bit wiser thanks to your help Grandpa and let me know if you want any more info or test done regarding this Kaza reg thing. I wont touch it until you say so. Can see the next problem will be removing it permenantly! just out of curiousty do you know if Kaza would be responsible for that invasion on my computer, legally I mean? Can I complain to anyone, there must be a way to stop these practices if the companies adding all this spyware are legitimate companies, I get about 5-10 cookies a day for monitoring my surfing habits. Thanks again, moziman |

![]() Not only have I never had Kaza, my operating system is about 3 weeks old now from a completly clean reinstall of XP sp2 from my old win98, decided time was right to start over given XP has had some time to bug fix. All my old files were deleted. moziman Just checked and my nuker backs up and allows restore, checked my limewire files and the earliest modified date was 25th this month, I think that is when I DL'd the original version from the reseller, as an experiment I could delete the kaza reg entries then restore the nuke files from that date and see if they reapear, guess that would prove it one way or the other.
