Moderators

There are senior members on the forums who serve as Moderators. These volunteers keep the board organized and moving.
Moderators are authorized to: (in order of increasing severity)
Move posts to the correct forums. Many times, members post in the wrong forum. These off-topic posts may impede the normal operation of the forum.
Edit posts. Moderators will edit posts that are offensive or break any of the House Rules.
Delete posts. Posts that cannot be edited to comply with the House Rules will be deleted.
Restrict members. This is one of the last punishments before a member is banned. Restrictions may include placing all new posts in a moderation queue or temporarily banning the offender.
Ban members. The most severe punishment. Three or more moderators or administrators must agree to the ban for this action to occur. Banning is reserved for very severe offenses and members who, after many warnings, fail to comply with the House Rules. Banning is permanent. Bans cannot be removed by the moderators and probably won't be removed by the administration.

The Rules

1. Warez, copyright violation, or any other illegal activity may NOT be linked or expressed in any form. Topics discussing techniques for violating these laws and messages containing locations of web sites or other servers hosting illegal content will be silently removed. Multiple offenses will result in consequences. File names are not required to discuss your issues. If filenames are copyright then do not belong on these forums & will be edited out or post removed. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement.

2. Spamming and excessive advertising will not be tolerated. Commercial advertising is not allowed in any form, including using in signatures.

3. There will be no excessive use of profanity in any forum.

4. There will be no racial, ethnic, or gender based insults, or any other personal attacks.

5. Pictures may be attached to posts and signatures if they are not sexually explicit or offensive. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement.

6. Remember to post in the correct forum. Take your time to look at other threads and see where your post will go. If your post is placed in the wrong forum it will be moved by a moderator. There are specific Gnutella Client sections for LimeWire, Phex, FrostWire, BearShare, Gnucleus, Morpheus, and many more. Please choose the correct section for your problem.

7. If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. Please do not respond directly to the member - a moderator will do what is required.

8. Any impersonation of a forum member in any mode of communication is strictly prohibited and will result in banning.

9. Multiple copies of the same post will not be tolerated. Post your question, comment, or complaint only once. There is no need to express yourself more than once. Duplicate posts will be deleted with little or no warning. Keep in mind a forum censor may temporarily automatically hold up your post, if you do not see your post, do not post again, it will be dealt with by a moderator within a reasonable time. Authors of multiple copies of same post may be dealt with by moderators within their discrete judgment at the time which may result in warning or infraction points, depending on severity as adjudged by the moderators online.

10. Posts should have descriptive topics. Vague titles such as "Help!", "Why?", and the like may not get enough attention to the contents.

11. Do not divulge anyone's personal information in the forum, not even your own. This includes e-mail addresses, IP addresses, age, house address, and any other distinguishing information. Don´t use eMail addresses in your nick. Reiterating, do not post your email address in posts. This is for your own protection.

12. Signatures may be used as long as they are not offensive or sexually explicit or used for commercial advertising. Commercial weblinks cannot be used under any circumstances and will result in an immediate ban.

13. Dual accounts are not allowed. Cannot explain this more simply. Attempts to set up dual accounts will most likely result in a banning of all forum accounts.

14. Video links may only be posted after you have a tally of two forum posts. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam.

15. Failure to show that you have read the forum rules may result in forum rules breach infraction points or warnings awarded against you which may later total up to an automatic temporary or permanent ban. Supplying system details is a prerequisite in most cases, particularly with connection or installation issues.

Violation of any of these rules will bring consequences, determined on a case-by-case basis.

Thank You! Thanks for taking the time to read these forum guidelines. We hope your visit is helpful and mutually beneficial to the entire community.

ldeanjames/hopper393

There is a bug in the newer versions of LimeWire that causes it to disconnect while in the sleep mode hopefully the Dev's will figure it out before to long.

hopper393

You probably have a graphics issue the link below might help with the minimizing issue and the blank screen.

hope this helps.....but seriously would think about doing a clean install instead of a the way you did....just keep in mind that when you install like you did....part of the old version stays ....but also keep in mind that you also may lose your incomplete folder...but there is a way to save it...and that is to move the folder to the same area your shared folder is.....myself i have two hard drives and both folders are on my massive storage slave drive so evertime i install i have to direct the save to this area...then it picks up both and i have my incomplete and shared folders...
take care.........

Hi there Hopper 393 and im your bosssss.
Okay, that explains your fast downloads, im your boss. (Hey, nobody's the boss of me! Heh heh.) I do music and videos and have had so much fun with both.
Is there no DSL locally that you can get? I was lucky to be living near one of Verizon's DSL hubs or stations, or whatever they're called. My friend, who lives two long blocks south of me can't get it.
Hopper,
I'll for sure check out the site on graphics. My card came with the system, and is fairly good, better than a lot, but certainly not for any serious gaming. And I'm not sure it's worth the 135 MBs of RAM it steals off the top of my 512, which is actually 490 now (some corruption maybe?) With the new stick I'll have 877 which is cool for me. eMachines told me my system will only take up to one gig. Last time I was in Best Buy, I drooled all over the video card displays, but the only ones I feel are worth tearing my system apart are financially out of my ball park.
By the way, when you mentioned upgrading your Java a while back, I flashed because I had just upgraded mine to the newest version. My screen never went gray, but it's mostly gray anyway, except in the middle where it's green. The graphics seem okay, in fact. What I get is the screens that only clear half away, and leave a portion inside another open window. Seems to me that would be resources, but I could be wrong, and usually am.
I was feeling grumpy earlier because I downloaded a whole 'nother porn movie instead of Crash...again. I couldn't preview it because of the codecs issue.
But in my rambling pursuit of the illusive miracle codec last night, I inadvertently downloaded DivX. And darn if the DivX player doesn't play all but one of the rascally files that failed on every other player. Pure blind luck. Wish I could fix something with logic, but I'll take what I can get.
Back a moment to the dozing LW: It's still going to sleep on me, but there are times when I leave on errands, come back an hour or so later and find it still on Turbo Charged. So I'll be grateful for that much.
And this is now officially novel length, or novella at least. Another aside: I have in a shared folder named eNovels under LW, the only novel of mine that never sold. Sci fi, horror, thriller book. I may have to put the eBook Reader download in there to make it easier to read, should anyone ever want to read it. It ain't bad. Honest. I know some of use guys read books, too.
Thanks for all the feedback, everyone. Forums are much more fun than I thought.
I'm outta here.

Well, hello there!
Is afterdawn a forum site? Or your intention to be awake at dawn? If it's a forum, I'll have to check it out. This is the only one I've ever been to.
I usually get things figured out eventually, or find someone who already has and can explain it to me. (Wink)
I'll certainly aim a "Howdy" your way should we find ourselves on the same page again.
Thanks again for your kind feedback and gentle pushes in the right direction to find my answers. Much much appreciated.
Have a very good one.

It's constantly dropping me too to the point it's pretty much unusable. It doesn't just drop istelf, it terminates my DSL connection. The modem connect light goes off and it resets itself. Seems to be getting worse.

Um.........experiencing all of the above, i leave the computer for a couple of minutes and LW goes to sleep, any longer and it disconnects and disappears completely, when I start it up again, none of what I was downloading is there any more, so like earlier, i was about 78% downloaded on a movie, and i turned it back on expecting it to be there but all of it was gone.............., I also agree with grandma, I ended up downloading loads of porn under names of proper movies..............plus some movies only download the sexy bits! Problem for me is, I'm pretty computer illiterate and I dont understand what you guys are talking about when you suggest ways to fix it.............. anyone wanna explain it to me like a 3 year old? Oh and i also want to point out that I only started haveing problems about 2 weeks ago when i updated to the new version. Before, i used to leave it on all night downloading movies and hey presto, loads of movies ready and waiting for me in the morning! I dont understand why just moving my mouse seems to re-awaken my comatose LW................... I need help but dont confuse me with jargon!

Here I am, a day late and a dollar short. I finally had to sleep. What a waste of good computer time! Except when I have great adventure dreams...

Hopper, you're so right about referring my downloads to files instead of...other things. I got to thinking about that and was going to ask in my next reply. You must be psychic, answering my question before it's written. I just hope I haven't already blown it, because Big Brother has the internet to watch with now.
It bothers me that I can't download a file just for my own pleasure. There's absolutely no money involved and the whole world has been doing it since the invention of the VCR. Oh, and I'm going to copy that link and visit the site. The words Free Downloads are music to my ears. I love thrift shops, too....

As for the issue that started this thread, if I'd had a clue, I would never have upgraded to 30. Too late now, since the older versions of LW don't seem to be available at the site. I just keep grabbing the latest upgrade in hopes that the disconnect/go-to-sleep issues will be fixed. The Ultrapeers on my connections screen seem to have every version of LW from the beginning of time, and very few of them have 4.9.30, 33 or 37. Or are on Pro.

Mine disconnected on me twice today, while it was supposedly waking up. I wonder what happens to the folks uploading a large file of mine? Can anyone tell me: am I just one of the "downloading from 10 hosts?" If so, then even if they lose my connection, they don't lose the upload. Right?

I'm really disturbed by what's happening to GCDEF and sambucabird. That just isn't right, to have your modem shut completely down, even worse to lose your file. Have you run a search on the system to see if it's stored somewhere, like in a temp folder or something? It isn't even in your incomplete folder? I think I'd do the complete wipe of the program, reg keys and all, and reinstall.

As for confusing you with jargon, Sam, remind me what it was you were asking about. I've been walking non-computer people through soft and hardware troubleshooting for nearly 5 years, so I could interpret someone else's steps for you. I'm a low-intermediate computer geek. (The more I learn, the more I realize I don't know.) As for wiping LW off your system and reinstalling it, the reg keys I mentioned earlier are the registration keys and they basically hold your whole system together. I would find a computer geek friend to delete the keys for me, just to make certain I didn't trash everything with one wrong click.

I'm going to check out some stuff I downloaded last night--six big files in one night, but my connection was good, and I was on the computer to keep LW from going to sleep. Here's hoping the files are named correctly, not in a furen language, and weren't created from the back seat of a theatre.

Happy 'pewting, everyone.

Rats! Sorry, Hopper, I forgot to mention that I already bought the whole Nero package, back a couple of months when I still had more dollars than sense. I really enjoy it. I got DVDShrink to use first, then use the burning or ripping or whatever it's called portion of it for the final process. So far, I've managed to fail to copy the "big" files to my Plextor drive, but I was using Roxio then. And lately I've been having too much fun watching my files and getting more. Oh, well.
Later...
