Moderators

There are senior members on the forums who serve as Moderators. These volunteers keep the board organized and moving.
Moderators are authorized to: (in order of increasing severity)
Move posts to the correct forums. Many times, members post in the wrong forum. These off-topic posts may impede the normal operation of the forum.
Edit posts. Moderators will edit posts that are offensive or break any of the House Rules.
Delete posts. Posts that cannot be edited to comply with the House Rules will be deleted.
Restrict members. This is one of the last punishments before a member is banned. Restrictions may include placing all new posts in a moderation queue or temporarily banning the offender.
Ban members. The most severe punishment. Three or more moderators or administrators must agree to the ban for this action to occur. Banning is reserved for very severe offenses and members who, after many warnings, fail to comply with the House Rules. Banning is permanent. Bans cannot be removed by the moderators and probably won't be removed by the administration.

The Rules

1. Warez, copyright violation, or any other illegal activity may NOT be linked or expressed in any form. Topics discussing techniques for violating these laws and messages containing locations of web sites or other servers hosting illegal content will be silently removed. Multiple offenses will result in consequences. File names are not required to discuss your issues. If filenames are copyright then do not belong on these forums & will be edited out or post removed. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement.

2. Spamming and excessive advertising will not be tolerated. Commercial advertising is not allowed in any form, including using in signatures.

3. There will be no excessive use of profanity in any forum.

4. There will be no racial, ethnic, or gender based insults, or any other personal attacks.

5. Pictures may be attached to posts and signatures if they are not sexually explicit or offensive. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement.

6. Remember to post in the correct forum. Take your time to look at other threads and see where your post will go. If your post is placed in the wrong forum it will be moved by a moderator. There are specific Gnutella Client sections for LimeWire, Phex, FrostWire, BearShare, Gnucleus, Morpheus, and many more. Please choose the correct section for your problem.

7. If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. Please do not respond directly to the member - a moderator will do what is required.

8. Any impersonation of a forum member in any mode of communication is strictly prohibited and will result in banning.

9. Multiple copies of the same post will not be tolerated. Post your question, comment, or complaint only once. There is no need to express yourself more than once. Duplicate posts will be deleted with little or no warning. Keep in mind a forum censor may temporarily automatically hold up your post, if you do not see your post, do not post again, it will be dealt with by a moderator within a reasonable time. Authors of multiple copies of same post may be dealt with by moderators within their discrete judgment at the time which may result in warning or infraction points, depending on severity as adjudged by the moderators online.

10. Posts should have descriptive topics. Vague titles such as "Help!", "Why?", and the like may not get enough attention to the contents.

11. Do not divulge anyone's personal information in the forum, not even your own. This includes e-mail addresses, IP addresses, age, house address, and any other distinguishing information. Don´t use eMail addresses in your nick. Reiterating, do not post your email address in posts. This is for your own protection.

12. Signatures may be used as long as they are not offensive or sexually explicit or used for commercial advertising. Commercial weblinks cannot be used under any circumstances and will result in an immediate ban.

13. Dual accounts are not allowed. Cannot explain this more simply. Attempts to set up dual accounts will most likely result in a banning of all forum accounts.

14. Video links may only be posted after you have a tally of two forum posts. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam.

15. Failure to show that you have read the forum rules may result in forum rules breach infraction points or warnings awarded against you which may later total up to an automatic temporary or permanent ban. Supplying system details is a prerequisite in most cases, particularly with connection or installation issues.

Violation of any of these rules will bring consequences, determined on a case-by-case basis.

Thank You! Thanks for taking the time to read these forum guidelines. We hope your visit is helpful and mutually beneficial to the entire community.

Unhappy Limewire disconnecting itself

Hi,
Ever since I downloaded the newest version of Limewire, (4.9.30)it will run for awhile, sometimes for hours, usually for only minutes before it disconnects itself! I 've made sure that I don't have a firewall blocking it and the thing is, the older version of Limewire ran fine! It's very frustrating to be downloading something, and then come back to find it hasn't even started the download since Limewire disconnected. I don't know how to fix it, or where even to begin! Otherwise, if I want to be able to actually get the downloads, I can't leave the computer for even a few minutes because it will disconnect and I will have to close out of Limewire completely and restart it. With the older version, I was able to go to sleep and let Limewire work all night, now this is impossible. Is anyone else having this problem with Limewire 4.9.30? Does anyone know how I could fix it so that Limewire doesn't disconnect until I want it to? Thanks so much!

Default Machine doesn't appear to have an active internet connection

Yeah, I get the same problem. The old versions worked fine, but now I get this message every couple of minutes:

your machine does not appear to have an active internet connection or a firewall is blocking limwire from accessing the internet. limewire will automatically keep trying to connect to your netowrk unless you select "Disconnect" from the file menu.

I'm sure my firewall isn't blocking it, and also, it won't let me browse the internet after it disconnects and gives me that error message.

Please help!!!

Running WinXP Pro with all the updates.

Going to need a little more Info.

Can you give us a total description of your set up:
1. OS version? (Eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. How much ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (Eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
9. Who is your ISP provider? ( AOL/MSN/Comcast/Tiscal)
10. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.
11. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?
These details are vital if you want us to find out what your connection problem is.

* Did you configure your firewall so it allows LW full access (advisable not to have 2 active firewalls b/c they can interfere with each other. http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml

12. Do This test, Is the result True/False?
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...757#post103757 Is the result True/False

Hello:
I registered to the forum because lately I am experiencing the same disconnection problems as stated in the two previous posts.
This began happening almost 3 weeks ago, but for the last 4 days it got worse and the Limewire disconnects itself and also disconnects my internet connection too often...I have to restart the pc to reconect to the internet and when I go to the Limewire and begin downloading, it disconnects again.
After doing it 7 times in the last hour I decided to post in the forum.
I use WinXp, 512 Ram, a lot of free space in the disc and the main question is why is it happening now if I haven't changed anything (I still didn't upgraded to the 4.9.3 version, I still have the 4.8.1? It used to work before but not now.

Thank you for your help,

Regards

Roberto

Try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Fixes for Limewire For now, stick with LW 4.8.1 as it was the best of the LW 4.8 series. And even much better than some of the 4.9.x releases.

I've got the same problem since I upgraded to 4.9.30. I upgraded to 33 and it's still happening. Upgraded my Java, still happening.
I ran the tests from Grandpa's (I think) reply. First test got "It worked!"
Second test did not provide a true/false response, but took me to another thread "For those who can't connect."
Went to Speakeasy and got a way low test off the L.A. server. Unplugged my dsl modem for 10 seconds and tried again, this time with the San Francisco server, a bit farther from here than L.A. and got Download 675 kbps, Upload 121. Tried L.A. again and got Download 698, Upload 110.
What Limewire is currently doing is running at Turbo when I'm working on the computer. If I leave it for thirty minutes, Limewire goes to sleep. I click with the mouse on anything and LW says it's waking the connection. This is the common occurrance. But some times I come back and it's just plain disconnected and I have to go to file and connect again. It's so annoying. I used to leave it running day and night. Overnight, my big files would have completed the download, but not anymore. Plus this shuts down or slows down the 8 folks I've got uploading big files, too.
I'm running an emachine with XP Home, with an AMD 2600+ processor, 512 MB RAM, minus whatever the video card uses.
The XP firewall is turned off, so I'm only running Norton Internet Security and Symantic virus scanner. LW is on the permit list, though I get boxes continually asking me if I want to let this or that web address through, which may or may not have anything to do with LW. It advises me to permit always, so I do. Am I forgetting anything? Oh, well.
Please oh master programmers, please track this idiosyncrasy down and fix it soon. I love LW, and I don't want to start looking around for another program that works.

Default thought i had it fixed

got a little ahead of myself the java update fixed some of my problems...I am not completely disconnecting...but am going to sleep sometimes....what i have done to work around this is cut my active down loads to three..then stack rest in Que...to start when one of the others finish...open my yahoo messenger turn on launch cast radio....then walk away or go to sleep...works most of the time...but not all...have noticed that sometimes my conection drops to execentlant instead of turbo...and a couple times found it disconected....befor the taste of new java...i was haveing my down load speads jump way up there[total speed] but not moveing at all on each file....then if tried to close to my tray it wouldn't ...and if did get it to minimize ...and reopen it right away was getting a blank page....
so am like you hope somebody finds a fix and soon...but noticed the 30 was worse than the 33 so maybe the next version will be there........??? i even tried setting ports..through my router ..but didn't help.....and i didn install eDonkey too....the pro version ...so here i am with two paid versions ...lime wire pro and eDonkey Pro..sure hope something breaks soon as i like the lime wire best ......but...............

ldeanjames/hopper393

There is a bug in the newer versions of LimeWire that causes it to disconnect while in the sleep mode hopefully the Dev's will figure it out before to long.

hopper393

You probably have a graphics issue the link below might help with the minimizing issue and the blank screen.

http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=39600

ldeanjames

I wish I had a answer to you problems but the same thing is happening to me and I haven't figured a way around it yet LimeWire had this same problem a few versions back and they had semi gotten it under control but it has crept it ugly head up again even worse than it was before.

Luckily I do not DL anything anymore unless I am testing so it really doesn't annoy me because it gives me a problem to try and see if I can beet it somehow. But I haven't been able to play with it to much I have been working long days and hours. Have a few more weeks of 12hrs a day 7 day a week then I will be able to play with it. Not that I will be able to do anything but I love to try.
