Default spyware keeps removing my limewire

I have aol and aol spyware protection. I just downloaded the upgrade for spyware and it always catches my limewire and calls it adware. It then removes it from my pc. when i am present i can allow limewire, but when the scan is ran without me i come back to find that limewire is gone once again. i have no way to turn it off through spyware. Does anyone else have this prob. or know what i can do to fix it?

Default AOL Anti-Spyware

Although you haven't said this but AOL has a very good free technical help line, which as an AOL member you are entitled to use.

As you are dealing with AOL's own anti-spyware software which non-AOL members no nothing about, may I suggest you call AOL first and then let us know how you get on.

I have a friend who uses AOL, I will contact him for you if necessary.

Default spyware vs limewire

Thanks for your feedback. I contacted aol, and they told me that limewire is being picked up as a spyware/adware program and that i should remove it before it causes damage to my computer. i paid for limewire. i havent had any problems with it until i updated to 4.9.30. Now i cant get it to connect easily, my pc performance has been slowing down, and now this spyware crap. I dont know what else to do. I really enjoy using limewire. Also the other day i downloaded a program from limewire and it was a virus! my software caught it, but i thought it was suppose to be safe from that. Any advice? Thanks

There are many spyware programs out there which don't work properly. Many don't work properly with p2p sharing programs because they see certain parts of it such as the http help link or the magnet & think these are spywares. We tend to recommend 1. ad-ware (FREE), & also 2. Spybot - Search & Destroy (FREE) b/c they are known to work properly & have received high praise from a spyware forum. It sounds like AOL is using a broken spyware program for their detection.

AOL is wrong on the advice they have given you, about LW harming your PC, I guess they must have an anti-P2P policy.

What you should do is ask AOL's tech support how you can get their anti-spy app to ignore LW. For example, both Ad-aware and Spybot can be configured to ignore installed applications, therefore AOL's app should have the same capability to ignore safe apps not currently in it's definition database.

As for viruses, you must stay away from exe and zip files, (I believe) some organisation, paid for by the film and music industry, have seeded the P2P network with viruses contained in small files (typically 871Kbs). Therefore, have nothing to do with suspect files and keep your virus definitions up to date.
