Upgrade

I updated to Limewire 4.9.37...but now I can't connect. I keep receiving a message stating that a firewall is blocking LimeWire...but I have allowed it in my firewall exceptions...and the ports are open. Anyone else run into this...any thoughts on how I can connect?

Can you give us a total desciption of your set up:
1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
4. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
5. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
6. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
7. Who is your isp provider (Internet Service Provider)?
8. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.
9. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?
These details are vital if you want us to find out what your connection problem is.

Did you configure your firewall so it allows LW full access (advisable not to have 2 active firewalls b/c they can interfere with each other); Firewall configuration instructions (click on link)

OK...I have Windows XP, Norton Firewalls, Highspeed DSL (Verizon), Westell Versalink 327W wireless router, connecting from home. Not sure which Java version I have...I can't open Limewire at all.

Not sharing the network with anyone else...and when I did the simple test it worked. Let me know if you need any more info.

Perhaps manual port forwarding is in order. LW 4.9 is much more sensitive to firewalls than previous versions.

The steps are 1. Set up a Static ip (the most important part, take care to do it correctly), 2. Forward a port for each of UDP & TCP (better than both together), 3. Within LW, set it for manual port forwarding.

Steps 1 & 2 see: http://www.portforward.com/english/r...W/Limewire.htm

Step 3: Within LW: Manual port forward instructions & sample image & 2 posts after that.

And about your firewalls, disable your XP firewall & go to the control panel, double click on Windows Firewall, check the disable box. Then use this for norton: Configuring Norton Internet Security Both Norton & XP FW are known to interfere with each other! ;)

I have been trying to follow the instructions that you sent to me, but ran into trouble around step 8...there was no field to put the subnet mask info...I followed everything pretty carefully...is it possible I need different directions?

Lord of the Rings December 9th, 2005 11:17 AM

It's possible you have a different firmware version & thus there's some differences.

I am not sure what to do here...I thought the update would be helpful...now I can't use LW at all..and I can't seem to use the fix that you are telling me about...is there any more direct support I can get...this is very frustrating.

Sure, if you're a LW Pro user, you can get Pro support. Just enter your pro details: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/support.shtml

So, I guess I am not able to use your product unless I pay for the PRO upgrade...discouraging. I was hoping that you could help. I love the service.

Don't show attitude on me now!!! :D :) .... I am a volunteer as are all the helpers on this forum. This forum is not owned or run by LimeWire.org. This forum caters for many gnutella clients not only LW. Did you get my pm. I gave you an option to try. I am no expert but just try to help as I can. I've never used the same device you have so I have no experience with it personally. Each device & version of firmware has its own differences & peculiarities. If you want modem/router support then seek help from the support line of the device company or go to portforward.com & become a member & post your questions there.
