Default Cant open LimeWire - Sticks at User Interface

I am unable to get LimeWire to fully open. The splash screen opens, and program starts to load but once it gets to: "Loading User Interface" it doesnt complete this task and open. It just sits there with the gray bar going back and forth.

I uninstalled, reinstalled, and upgraded to the newest version, but it still will not open.

It worked fine last night, this morning, nothing. It simply wont open. I have not installed any new programs, etc...

Running Win XP. Turned off anti virus, Zone Alarm and this didnt help. I am running the free version. I was considering buying the Pro version but not sure now.

Any ideas???

You should always start with LW Basic to become familiar with it & if there's any issues, to get them sorted out. Then look at other options such as pro which is really a type of donation to help the LW crew continue with the development of the program.

A. See The way to fix the Blank screen on startup & see if that applies.

B. Can you give us a total desciption of your set up:
1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. How much ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. You can also find this out from the control panel>Java.
9. Who is your isp provider (Internet Service Provider)?
10. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.
11. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?

These details are vital if you want us to find out what your problem is.

C. *** Did you configure your firewall so it allows LW full access (advisable not to have 2 active firewalls b/c they can interfere with each other); Firewall configuration instructions (click on link) Remember Windows XP has its own firewall!

The info requested is below. Please keep in mind this isnt actually a connection issue. The program simply wont fully open. It gets stuck while loading the user interface.

1) OS - Win XP
2) Zone Alarm (LimeWire is allowed to access) Win firewall is disabled. Closed ZA but this didnt help
3) 512 Ram
4) Cable Connection
5) Hard drive has about 25G left
6) Modem is DCM425 (RCA)
7) Connecting from home
8) Using 4.9.37 LW (I had this issue with previous version and upgraded to see if this helped. It did not.
9) Insight is my ISP
10) Not sharing the system
11) I got a "test worked" screen

You forgot the give me your Java version. May I suggest you uninstall Java & reinstall it. Use the Add/Remove Prog control panel to remove java. Then download & install specifically the "Offline" version of Java here: Java 1.5 (take the JRE)

But I should warn you about this .. it may not affect you now but perhaps later: 1. ISP's known to BLOCK or Filter p2p or specifically Limewire, & also this one dare I say it, 2. A Fix for those whose ISP's block Limewire pages 1 - 3 which have links to alternative instructions.

Default Still the same thing

I have no firewall. If I do it is with my ISP (SBC). I checked my protection and I see nothing RE: firewall. My Java just updated this morning. I turned off the pop up blocker and instructed my computer to accept cookies from filefront.com. I still have the same problem. I get nothing after "loading user interface" I am going to shut down the computer and restart. maybe this will get the Java download to work.

I my operating system is 2000 and I am trying to run limewire 4.10.

Do both steps #1 & 2 here: Try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Point #2 in Fixes for Limewire (sample at bottom of page.)
Yes, re-install Java again but ONLY using the "Offline" installer version. Installing over the net can cause problems.

BTW if you can't find your LW prefs as described, then LW 4.10 is probably your 1st version of LW. In which case the preferences folder will be found here: How to delete LW preferences folder in 4.10 (click on link) Don't forget to set the view options to show hidden files & folders before you search for limewire!

I have already deleted the . limewire folder and i have uninstalled java and reinstalled it with the link earlier in this thread but it didnt work.

i had limewire 4.9something before and this same problem happened when i had it, i installed 4.10 because i thought it would fix the problem. ill try offline installing java again to make sure but i believe i already have.
thanks for the help

edit** i uninstalled and reinstalled java (the offline version ) and lime wire still doesnt open
