Default http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ Didn't display, whats that mean?

I have been reading posts and trying to get my Limewire connected for 4 hours now. I read a post that said:
.................................................. .......................................

Did you configure your firewall so it allows LW full access (advisable not to have 2 active firewalls b/c they can interfere with each other); Firewall configuration instructions (click on link)

Can you give us a total desciption of your set up:
1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. How much ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
9. Who is your isp provider (Internet Service Provider)?
10. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.
11. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user.
These details are vital if you want us to find out what your connection problem is.)

It means that port 6346 which LW uses by default to connect thru is being blocked. "If" the only thing that's changed is your ISP (internet service provider), then perhaps that's the reason. Are you sure you're using the exact same equipment & settings as before?

What you could try is connecting thru another port. You'll need to go to LW's menu bar, Tools>Options>Advanced>Firewalls & change the listening port to another. I'm not sure how you change UPnP port. You may need to close LW after the change. Here's a list of several to try: 1111, 3500, 4008, 1203, 10000, 15189, 80, 20282, 22817, 443, 427, 34599, 40475, 64049.

There's 2 port options. One is listening port, the other is connection port. If possible try to change the connection port. I don't have a UPnP capable router so I'm not sure about whether it's possible to change the port for this or not.

Else manually port forward (prolly the netgear) in order to connect thru other ports.

BTW I'm very grateful you looked around at other posts & did some homework. Thank you for giving the appropriate info without us needing to ask for it.

My whole setup is new since i have moved.

my UpnP seems to be working when i log on to check my UpnP status in my router and LW they both match.

if I want to port forward do I make the listen port and the manual port forward the same number in LW config?

It shows that there is a firewall still active even when I temp. disable all of them to see if that is the problem. Where could this firewall be located if it is not set up on my computer either through McAfee or windows?

is it possible to test open ports by substituting that port number with 6346 in the test link?

I don't know about Netgear, but there will either be an external UPnP switch on the device, or you'll need to log into it using your browser to see if there's a UPnP option you can activate. Type in http://192.168.1.1 or http://192.168.1.99 in your browser to log into your netgear device. You'll prolly have to log in. Now check your options. If your router is UPnP enabled, then so should LW be set as such.

This may or may not be of help: http://kbserver.netgear.com/inquira/...78#__highlight OR this http://kbserver.netgear.com/inquira/...iction=kb_file & possibly this http://kbserver.netgear.com/products/WGR614v6.asp

If you need to manually port forward then see http://portforward.com/routers.htm

Both the listening port & connecting port should be the same unless you wish to manually port forward a separate port your router for each.

ok the UPnP with LW and Netgear are working together and seems to be open according to the link test using port 80

I still do not have an active connection to LW, I'm thinking this has something to do with my firewall. I have LW set as an unrestricted exception in both my windows and McAfee. I currently have wondows firewall disabled.
I can see the firewall icon in LW even when I disable all of my known firewalls. I'm ready to throw in the towel

thanks for all your help in setting me up with the ports
