Smile Can someone please reply to a desperate music loving girl!!!

Hello again, i just want some advice about firewall issues!! i've aready gone through Norton sucurity, and internet options to ensure that those firewalls are permitting limewire. I've never had a problem until the other night after i had downloaded some songs. Next day, limewire is detecting a firewall??? I'm really annoyed and frustrated. If someone knows of something else i should try PLEASE tell me!!
Thank you!!
Sidney

sidney & spiderpainball,

Have you checked to see whether your ISPs are blocking or filtering p2p?

Make sure you're only using one firewall (two can interfere with each other) & that it's configured properly for LW:
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=51357

Read the parts about UPnP within the above thread. If your routers use UPnP, make sure it's enabled both within the router & within LW (tools > options > advanced > firewall config. Tick 'use UPnP', apply).

Do the port 6346 test within the thread. What's the result?

If you have no joy, give your set up details:

OS
LW & Java version (help > about LW & it'll tell you)
Connection type (dial-up, ADSL etc)
Where you connect from (home, work etc)
Modem/router brand & model number
Firewall you're using
ISP
Do you share a connection with other computers
Is this your first try at using LW

**spiderpainball, only use your Norton firewall, turn off the Win!

Okay I got it to work finally!! The first thing i did was uninstall norton. I couldnt find my disc for it, so i just enabled xp firewall and of course configured it to allow limewire!!) Then I took the adviced that was given, options advanced, firewall config, then allow upnp, then apply. ALl of the sudden its working. Now i'm worried if I'm okay without norton, at least untill i find my disc to reinstall.!!! So try that!!
Thanks for everyones help!!!

You should be fine with the Norton. There's not much point having 2 firewalls running at once, if they're going to cause probs.

Glad you're up & running again

XP firewall & Norton firewall do not work well together. Even M$ recommends not using XP with any other firewalls as they can clash & not function properly. I can provide examples if necessary of people who've tried to run both & had problems & their Norton FW not working properly as a result (giving incorrect results.) Not to mention LW not connecting properly. Many other firewall companies also strongly advise against running 2 firewalls!

Windows XP firewall is not very good. It does a very basic level job. Norton is much more intesnsive & able to pick up a lot more invasions than XP FW can. Uninstalling shouldn't necessarily uninstall Norton security. There's other options ... some free ... WARNING: Viruses on network you should be aware of! (click on link) sections 2+
