Smile TIP for NJ OptOnline Customers!

Hi everyone! I've been reading all the posts lately because like many of you, my Limewire stopped connecting for some reason. I tried everything and finally called Optimum Online because many of the posts said that they were blocking the P2P connection. Well, the guy assured me that they weren't and he actually told me he lives in this area and was just using LW the other day. The point I'm getting at is that he told me to change my port within limewire to a port between 50000 and 65000. I changed it to like 51002 or something like that (it doesn't matter) and now it works! So, try this because I tried everything and this was the only thing that worked! I just figured I "owed" it to many of you because I would have never thought to call OptOnline if I hadn't read the posts! Good Luck!

I'm helping you to spread the word and all credit will be due to you my friend. Man, and all this time I was getting on Optimum - Well at least we raised our voices so someone as yourself can hear our cries and probably made the optimum dude just cough up the goods so he can get rid of the hundreds of LW calls a day.

I'll try this, but for the port you mean the Listening Port right? And what do I choose for my router configuration (since I have a router)? My router support UPnP, so should I just choose that option? If not, then for the port forward option, what should I write in the port there? Should it be the same as the Listening Port? (I know I have to set up a static IP and a port-forward with my router for this to work) Sorry for the barage of questions. :P

Ok I tried typing in a Listening Port like 52343 and for router config, I selected the UPnP option. Still not connecting. I e-mail Opt Online, and they said I'll get a response soon. Any other ideas for now?

Try the port the individual tried on 50012 or whatever it was (above your posts). They say to keep the upnp option so do that and make sure that you don't have conflicting firewalls. I made sure the firewall on my router was turned off. If you have a motorola router most likely it has a firewall option on there so make sure that is deselected.

The thing is, I'm sure it's not my router's firewall because I have had my router for about 6 months, and Limewire stopped working only last week. So it can't be my router. And I didn't change any settings on my computer (regarding firewalls). I'll try that in 5 min.
