Unhappy Can't Connect

I got xp firewall turned off. But it says its still behind a firewall. I got that little brick wall icon in the corner still.
I got a paradyne 6350 dsl modem and no router. My isp says they're not blocking anything. Please help.

Ok, to start with go & read the sticky at the top of the page. You shouldn't run with no firewall, just configure the f/w for LW. Look at the info about UPnP...if your router uses it, it has to be on within the router & also LW (tools > options > advanced > firewall config. Tick use UPnP & apply).

Do the port test & see what result you get

Lightbulb

Ok. I downloaded the patch for increasing the # of ports to 50 from ten. I turned on upnp in my network connections settings. and i configured the xp firewall to limewire per the sticky.
I just did a port test and the port that limewire listens on is open now. And the little brick wall icon is gone now.
I still am not connecting yet. It has been about 30 minutes. and it quit trying to connect. What next?
I still cant find out if my dsl modem is upnp though.
I really appreciate your help.

lynnjoe,
Well, at least the firewall icon's gone . I can't find anything about your modem using UPnP either. It's not even in the manual.

Try shutting LW down then restarting it. Try clicking on file & disconnect, then connect from there again. What are your details (just put in everything, even what you've already told me)

OS
LW & Java version (help > about LW & you'll see)
Firewalls used
Modem/router brand & model
ISP
Where you connect from (home, work etc)
Connection type (DSL etc)
Do you share connection with other computers
Is this your first try with LW

It might be your modem, some of them have an internal firewall. I can't find any info about whether yours has a firewall or not. But...your model isn't listed on the portforward page, normally modems that suffer these kind of probs are listed there.

You could try changing ports. There's a list of alternative ports here, follow LOTR's advice about how to set up.

I used to always be able to connect, whenever I wanted, and it'd be fast too. These days: nuthin. Every now and then I'll be able to get on for an hour or so, but downloads are SOOOOO slow compared to the olden days. What's up with gnutella? Why is it so crappy now?
