Still can't get connected with Windows 98 How do I get connected to Limewire on Windows 98? I beleive I have no standard firewall on my computer and I have no second party firewall. Does anyone know whats wrong? I have tried to use some of the advice that I have received but I really don't get all that stuff. I'm really not that much a computer whiz. Limewire says "Starting Connection" but it never does. I don't know whats wrong? I have tried using random port numbers but still nothing. Is it something to do with my router or modem. Or my IP address. PLEASE HELP SOMEONE! Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!! |
I was also wondering if installing a 2nd party firewall and then disabling that firewall would allow me to connect to Limewire. |
I don't think that installing a firewall, then disabling it is going to do anything:D In your other posts from a while ago http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=53597 LOTR asked you to do the port 6346 test... what was your result? You gave a list of different devices, are you using them all? The MN 700 router has NAT & SPI firewalls, these are probably a big part of your problem (I can't find info on internal firewalls for the other devices). I can't find any info on UPnP for any of those gadgets:eek: so maybe manually port forwarding is the way to go. Step 1. Set up a static IP address (this has to be done first) http://www.portforward.com/networking/static-98.htm Step 2. Port forwarding http://www.portforward.com/english/r...0/Limewire.htm Step 3. Set manual p/f within LW. Tools > options > advanced > firewall config. Now make sure the listening port is 6346. Tick 'manual port forward' & make sure 6346 is in this box too. Apply. Now cross your fingers & hope it works:D |
G-Unot Can you give us a total description of your set up: 1. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) 2. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? 3. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)? 4. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. |

2) Qwest (Actiontec). Model numbers? 3) I'm trying to connect from my home computer. 4) I have Limewire PRO 4.10. |
Now I'm really confused. I thought you said in another thread you were using Microsoft devices. Can you possibly state exactly the devices you are using? The model no's will most likely be listed on the top side or bottom. You can call Qwest to find out which models & devices you have if you're unsure. ;) My guess is this is your problem. Your devices are causing a firewall effect. Unless we can know exactly what you have, we can't hand you specific advice & instructions. If you want to connect, then the time & cost of a call to Quest is not important. When you're on the phone to them, also ask them if they block any ports whatsoever & which ones. Write these down & post your information here after the call. Also ask whether they block or shape bandwidth for p2p programs such as LW. This & port & device information is very important to solving your issue. |
