I'm also an OOL user in Brooklyn (Kensington area), and ALL of my P2P clients stopped working since the last weekend after the OOL internet service was down for an upgrade.

After the last-weekend OOL upgrade:

LimeWire cannot connect;

eMule cannot connect;

BearShare cannot connect;

various other P2P programs that I've downloaded to see if they will connect, CANNOT CONNECT.

So the story that OOL reps give us about OOL not having anything to do with us not being able to connect to P2P programs is BULLSHIT!!

I been having this limewire problem also, I live in brooklyn, IM with Optimun Online. I am tyring that new thing with getting a IP address from SecureIX. Now my problem is that I followed the directions on how to optain it and all, but when I click connect to connect to the secureix, it stays at connecting to Secure blah blah then I get an error saiyng:

Error 800: UNable to establish the VPN Connection. THe VPN server may be unreachable, or security parameters may not be configured properly for this connection.

Does anyone know whats the deal with this? I ddin't touch any of the configuration and stuff so I don't know maybe if thats why? plz help! thanks!

It says on the website that there service is free untill the testing is over with the betta version. BETA means that it is a new program.

Lord of the Rings April 11th, 2006 05:01 PM

All for one & one for all! Please help your fellow OOL user by describing what they need to do. :)

On top of the page where the above is displayed, you can also read "NEW: We are currently running in a free trial mode."

ooo sweet, phew LOL, thanks guys, well it finally connected and now I am able to use limewire again, sweet!!! now just a few things, once this beta is over, what will we have to use then? and since this is proven fact that this method works now for us OOL users, is it a fact that optimun online blocked P2P or something? Also, how does this secure rom exactly work? right when I connected I lost internet for a few seconds, so what it did was replace my IP with there IP for this temp use until I disconnect from there server?

OOL definitely blocked P2P services. My eMule, BearShare, LimeWire cannot connect. Various other P2P programs I've downloaded to see if they would connect, and none of them could.

BTW, Kill Crazy, did you see the "Do not dial the initial connection" option when making a new connection? I could not find it.

hughes April 11th, 2006 05:42 PM

Boys,

If you need help changing your IP address and you can't figure out SecureIX, go here:

There's plenty of other fish in the sea.

Now every once in a while that connect box would appear on my PC asking to connect to the secure thingy, anyone know why this is happening and how I can disable that?

DiCeDat1 April 11th, 2006 07:07 PM

I just found out thier really isnt one..be1999 so dont worry. Well I had some problems with SecureIX because I kept on retrying and retrying but all I did now was turn my anti-virus off AND made a NEW secure IX which means I now have 2 and used the second one..I dont know if that might help some1 I use Norton Firewall BTW

What does changing your IP have to do with SecureIX? THat's what secureIX does! THat's it's purpose. Your ISP will no longer be able to determine that you are using a P2P network if you change your IP address. Read back a couple of posts.

THEN READ MY POST AT THE TOP OF THIS PAGE TO FOR A LINK TO EVEN BETTER PROGRAMS THAN SECUREIX THAT ACTUALLY WORK!!

solja April 12th, 2006 10:28 AM

k well all of a sudden i logged on today and im turbocharged..but it still says firewalled.

DiCeDat1 April 12th, 2006 10:48 AM

wow no secure IX and my connection works my firewall is also turned on and it has "turbo charge" any1 else experiencing this..??

PhantomZwei April 12th, 2006 01:03 PM

Whats with all of this? I have firends who are like 10 min away from me and they use limewire practiaclly everyday. Now how is it it works fine for them and for me ( who uses it once a week) doesnt connect. Yes they have optimum.. its no fair at all. .why should I have to install more junk on my computer to get a connection again. Someone should do something about this.. or there should be a new version of limewire that stops this crap from happening. I mean I am going to have to walk 5 blocks inorder to use limewire?

vac680 April 15th, 2006 05:15 AM

any new updates regarding the OPTIMUM ONLINE ISSUE?

i have OPT ONLINE also , and am experiencing the same problems. i had the 4.9 pro version, everything was great up until 3 weeks ago. so then i upgraded to the 4.10 pro version thinking my 4.9 version was corrupted. now i can not even get connected. this totally sucks. i was reading about a program someone posted that can change the IP ADDRESS, however. i have a linksys wireless router, and also a linksys VCIP router to deal with. to top it off i have VONAGE for my phone service. so i am totally SCREWED.

so with that all said, anyone have any reccomendations for what i can do to get my limewire working again????

THANKS !

bulldog123 April 15th, 2006 08:47 AM

Yes. This is at least a temporary solution which someone suggested and worked for me.

http://www.secureix.com/index.shtml

Sign up for free during the beta with your OOL e-mail address and they'll send you instructions. I e-mailed them and they said it's legal and it did work for me. Try it out.

ForsakenOutlaw57FF April 21st, 2006 02:26 PM

Bronx.

Tried to do the port change and nothing. I don't know if I want to get into IP changing but this is ridiculous. To hell with OptOnline.

ForsakenOutlaw57FF April 21st, 2006 02:31 PM

I'm down for that subpoena argument from back. This is ridiculous.
