Check this link out re your ISP Comcast (ISP's known to Filter or Block P2P) also this link (comcast to employees talking about blocking P2P) and one last link (Is Comcast really blocking P2p) -- THE PROBLEM IS YOUR ISP

Boobah April 17th, 2008 01:22 PM

Cannot connect......with Comcast?

I was aware that Comcast was filtering BitTorrent. However, I recently (late March 2008) read that Comcast was going to stop blocking P2P. Anyway, I downloaded MP3Rocket and it connected first try - no adjustments needed.

There you go.

This may be another issue with LimeWire that is perhaps resolved with specific steps taken to uninstall and then fresh install LW.
(Possibly Java as well.)

1,000s and 1,000s of people are having big problems that appear to be 'fixed' only by the above mentioned steps...

Have a look at > If LimeWire Will Not Load

I know that the title doesn't seem applicable, but... ;)

Shmalster April 18th, 2008 08:25 AM

Ok, I don't know if this will work for everyone, but it worked for me. When my limewire was NOT connecting, I was always SWITCHING USER when I signed off. DON'T DO THAT. It may be faster, but after I started just LOGGING OFF for awhile, it worked 100% greatly! I hope this works for you guys!

After you deleted the preferences folder, did you have to go thru LW's setup wizard all over again?
Find the gnutella.net file, hover your mouse over it & see the file size. If it's around 20kb then that should be ok.

Did you try changing ports? If the test page won't load, it can sometimes mean that an ISP is blocking the default port. If you do change ports, remember to click apply & ok to save the change. You can try a few different ports in the range shown in the help thread.

Did you try rolling back to the earlier version of Java mentioned in the help thread?

Is there any model number/numbers on the modem/router?? Or any name, other than CenturyTel?

Looks like CenturyTel can provide a security suite, including firewall...check whether you have that as part of your plan.
https://www.centurytel.com/addSecuri...curity%20Suite
If you do have a firewall thru your internet plan, make sure that XP's firewall is turned off & that the other firewall is configured to allow LW.

Has this prob just started since you installed SP3?

In Limewire Links (below) click on (If LW will not connect) and go through these fixes -- if still no good try the next fix (connection problems) -- let us know how you get on please

Note In the fix -- when you delete the LW/Preference folder if it still doesnt connect go back into the Limewire folder and check that the .gnutella.net file is approx 22kb in size -- if smaller delete it and download another gnutella.net file from here to your desktop -- now drag it into your Limewire folder -- now try and connect again. you might have to do this several times. You will find you preference folder here :- C:\Users\your username\AppData\Roaming\LimeWire <-- (Also called the Preference folder)

dodgec,

you have 2 firewalls running -- this causes problems and reduces your computer security -- disable your windows xp firewall -- see if you can connect now -- if not try those fixes again -- if still no good try an older version of LW from here (try version 4.12.6 -- download java 1.5.0_11/offline version to use with that version of LW) (JRE 5.0 UPDATE 11) -- dont forget to remove all your other versions of JAVA from your add/remove program -- Start --> Control panel --> Add or Remove programs
