PS you really don't look like a fool | In principal, a direct connect between you and your friend is possible (though this feature in LW seems not to be a perfect science). But to do so, it will require you both to have the brick wall removed from the globe as well as having enabled the possibility to chat (look in LW>tool>chat whether this option is marked).
For the firewall, well, follow the link I've posted in my last reply and try those suggestions. If it still doesn't help, get back here and post the results of your tests and then we go from there.

Besides, humans sometimes look/appear like a fool, it's part of growing up I guess
