shaping p2p

i couldn't find much on sasktel.com, except that they are 'ending official support for win98 and millenium'. This is of june 30th so i don't know why it might affect me.

The link I gave you should give you decent downld speeds. I haven't heard too often of dial up users being shaped for p2p use but perhaps some isp's are getting tough on all users.

You could try changing both your connection & listening port to one between 49152 - 65535 such as 64049 & see if this makes a difference. You may need to restart or reconnect LW for it to have any effect.

I checked out the 'connection problems part duex' and downloaded that jar file, but what do i do with it. i have no programs that open it.

Bitz n' Bytes June 1st, 2006 07:35 PM

OK i changed my listening port to 64049 and i did the manual prot forwarding to port 62830. i don't know if it worked but ill tell u in a bit, reconnecting LW...

I'm not sure about the jar file as I've never used it. Did you downld the purger file: http://www.limewire.com/english/cont...ads/purger.jar

I'd suggest you should have both listening & connection port the same if you forwarded port 62830

could my version of java be the prob?

Bitz n' Bytes June 1st, 2006 07:51 PM

thats the jar that i got, i open it and it has a bunch of letters that don't make sense, i don't think i have the right program to open it with, it says its a 'CLASS'
file ? ? ? and i changed my listening port the same as the forwarding port

So what's happening exactly?

The recommended Java is version 1.5

There is a version 1.6 beta which is improved but LW will only use it if you don't have any other Java versions on your computer. What you could do is use the add/remove control panel to remove all Java versions. Then install Java 1.6 http://java.sun.com/javase/6/download.jsp JRE "Offline" version which is a 15.72 MB download

You may also be interested in trying the LW 4.11.2 beta which has improvements: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/download.shtml
No need to uninstall LW, it will be removed at the beginning of installing of the new version. You might want to delete your LW prefs though. If you do you'll need to reset your firewall settings with manual port forwarding.

ok in have that link in another tab here but it says current version 4.10
where do i click?

Lord of the Rings June 1st, 2006 08:10 PM

Go to LW's menu bar, Help menu > About LW will show both LW version & Java version.
