Is your LW connected (all green/blue connection bars)? If it is, try the fixes below.

1. In LW go tools > options > searching > basic & check whether the 'show license warning' box is ticked. If it does, untick it > Apply > ok...see if that makes any difference.

2. Problems with the search

3. Delete LW's preferences folder when LW's properly closed. See point 3 here & also point 2 if you've used older versions of LW in the past (there could be a folder in either location).
Fixes for LimeWire
This will kill all of your settings within options, you'll have to go back through afterwards & reset things.

I see now that I am not connecting. This was not a problem before. Norton firewall is supposed to allow LW. Indeed this started when the Norton firewall was not running.

I'm also having a problem similar to this,
I've added LW as an exception to the firewall
but on the "read me first part" it said something about it saying it was permanently connecting.

I went to the connections tab to look, and there is nothing there
is this the issue?
On the tab preview in the read me file it had 10-12 sources there.

I also created a folder on where to save the downloads, not sure how that would affect its ability to connect, just though I should throw that out there since it was messing with all the presets.

tbescapee & jkfabf,

Try the advice here: all of a sudden will not connect (a fix to try)
Start off by deleting LW's preferences folder & changing Java versions.

In case you have Vista, things are a bit different to XP when finding the preferences folder & other files/folders within Application Data. This thread should help with that: LimeWire Pref Folder in Vista

If nothing there helps, please give us your details.

I searched for the .limewire folder to erase it and change it

I included all hidden etc folders
nothing was returned?

I was using a version of limewire that WAS working, and it wasn't connecting before so I updated Java and that worked
but then it stopped connecting again.

I uninstalled LW and Java, reinstalled, reupdated (after trying without the update) and it never connected.

I'm using an Avast! firewall and webroot spysweeper.

The folder might not be named .limewire (the old preferences folder within Documents and Settings\username was named .limewire).
Try looking for C:\Documents and Settings\your username\Application Data\LimeWire. If you have a folder named LimeWire (note: not all lower case & no dot in front), delete that one.

WOW, thank you. It worked almost instantly.

kudos =]

newbie needs help!!!

i am a first time user of limewire. and have had 3 days of headaches and frustration. i have tried to do searches, and have not had any found, even when i do a basic one, nothing comes back. im sure it has to be a glitch, or some setting that needs to be checked or unchecked. in my lower left corner, it says starting connection and only one green bar is lit, could this be the issue? please help if anycan,

birdy November 13th, 2007 05:05 PM

polotodd,

Try the fixes in post #8 of this thread. If they don't help, see post #14.

1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)-VISTA
2. What firewalls you have?-1?, BUT LW IS ALLOWED
3. How much ram?-4GB
4. Hard Disk space available?-ENOUGH
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)-DSL
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?-WESTELL VERSALINK 327W
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?-HOME
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.-THE NEWEST OF BOTH
9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider)?-BELLSOUTH
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?-IT WORKS
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.- NOPE
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user.-I USED LW YEARS AGO, BUT I JUST BOUGHT PRO VERSION
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? -YES

Yes your problem is a connection problem. You need to be properly connected to the network to do searches.

Remember Vista has its own firewall. Some Vista systems come loaded with 3rd party firewalls so choose which one to use & disable the others. Make sure LW is allowed access.

For people who are upgrading to LW Pro, it's a good idea to delete your LW prefs folder whilst LW is closed; http://www.gnutellaforums.com/genera...der-vista.html

In my experience the Westell devices are best port forwarded. But at least log into your Westell device & ensure UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) is enabled. (a) If not, then enable it, save settings & reboot router if needed. Then try LW again. But (b) if yes UPnP is enabled, then it might not be working well and port forwarding is the way to go. Find Westell on far right column here PortForward.com - Free Help Setting up Your Router or Firewall
* The very first step & most important is setting up at static ip when port forwarding. PortForward.com - Setting up a Static ip
