I've heard of others both having problem with Clearwire Broadband & also with NextNet devices used elsewhere. AFAIK all or almost all wireless devices have internal NAT firewalls.

jay173's advice is good. Go for a very high port. 49152 - 65535 are usually the best if there's any doubt about ISP blocking of ports. A good one to try is port 64049. ie: go to LW's menu bar, Tools>Options>Advanced>Firewalls & change the listening port. If still no good, then try changing the connection port also.

It really depends upon how an ISP is blocking p2p. They use many techniques. It may include blocking of ports, it may include special programs that detect p2p programs & stop them in their tracks, or they may dedicate them to a lower priority bandwidth whereby they get slower speeds; aka bandwidth shaping. Proxies may 'sometimes' prove successful in cases where an isp is blocking.

okay....I know what to do to change the port number in my ms firewall. but where do i have to change ports within limewire itself?

HI there. I am currently with Clearwire as well. But can not do the port forwarding to download from Limewire (paid account) and UTorrent. The p2p companys say i have to set the router to port forwarding but when i contacted Clearwire about this they said;

"Peer to Peer (P2P) applications treat your computer as both
‘client’ and ‘server’ meaning any information you
download to your computer using a P2P application, is then available for
upload. Once you have installed the application your computer can act as a
server and information is continuously uploaded from it, through our network.
This is in direct contravention to the Clearwire terms of service.

Section 10 of your terms of service state that you may not use the service or
take any action that will result in excessive consumption or utilization of
Clearwire’s network resources. Such prohibited actions include but are
not limited to: using the service to host a web server, continuously uploading
or downloading streaming video or audio, or continuous FTP uploading or
downloading."

Which means in Laymans terms - No we wont let you!-

would you have any idea how i would do this anyway because it seems that you are able to do it. I have the exact same router as you and use a 2Mbs speed.

So here is the situation now:

Limewire listening port: set to 64049
Router config. Manual port forwarding - set to 64049 (i also tried use UpNp)

Windows firewall:

Advanced settings for local area connection set to:

Gnutella service (check box selected)

internal and external ports both set to 64049 (for both protocols)

The only other thing, is that the IP stated in the limewire connection help doesnt seem to show up after i save. i.e. - "127.0.0.1"

It seems to default to the name of mhy laptop instead.

Any thoughts...or have we exhausted all options at this stage.
