Cool Norton Firewall Disconnects

I'm fairly new to this but believe I have everything set correctly but can't figure out why Norton Personal Firewall keeps disconnecting.

I set up LW in Norton Firewall customized as follows:

Permit Internet Access
Connection to and from other computers
Allow any computers to connect
Protocols: TCP and UDP
Permit port 6348 ( have tried different ports)
and yes I have changed the port settings in LW too

When LW first starts to connect, it shows the block wall in front of the globe indicating the firewall is set
but as soon as LW connects the brick wall disappears

I thought maybe it had something to do with my wireless router but it is UPnP
and I loaded LW on my laptop and set up rules in Norton and it seems to work fine.
I went to check the settings for Norton on the laptop to compare but, believe it or not, LW isn't even listed under internet controls. Strange huh? I don't believe I set the rules any differently on the laptop.

Anyway, I'm at a loss.
Does anyone have any ideas of what the problem could be???

Thanks

You may need to re-configure such as cancelling that configuration & redoing it. See (a) Configuring Norton Internet Security, & also (b) Reconfiguring Norton Firewall

Default Configuring Norton Personal Firewall to Work with Limewire

Dczone

Let me understand this, you believe that after configuring NPF and LW to work together and when they are both running the brick wall vanishes from in front of the globe and you think something is wrong:

Believe it or not, this is exactly how LW and NPF are suppose to work together. I know because I have been using NPF (versions 2003 and now 2005) for nearly four years and using LW for over two. So I don't see what your problem is or am I misunderstanding what you are trying to say?

Just to emphasize, the brick wall, in LW, is suppose to vanish when LW and your firewall (whether a software firewall, one inbuilt within a modem/router or both) are correctly configured to work together.

ukbobboy01 is on the spot. Although your device has UPnP, not all devices have a good implementation of UPnP. Since there's more than one definition of it (duh), it doesn't always work well. So can you tell us what brand & model of device(s) you're connecting through?

UPnP is a little like beta & vhs or dvd HD where there's 2 or more camps heading in slightly different ways.

My device is a D-Link DI-524

The strange thing is, like I said in my original post. LW works fine on my laptop, but not on my desktop. Could this possibly be cuz the router is hardwired into my desktop? And my laptop is wireless? Also, after I set the rules on the laptop, LW isn't listed under Internet Access Control but LW indicates a firewall is detected

and ukbobboy01 ummmmmmmm I think maybe you need to read your docs cuz looks like you are working without a firewall. I really don't think it is suppose to work the way you believe it does

Dczone

I think you have totally misunderstood your problem and misinterpreted how LW is suppose to work.

Now, at this point, I want other forum members to back me up on this because clearly you have got the wrong end of the application:

When you see the brick wall in front of the globe it means that LW cannot access the internet properly and is being blocked by a firewall.

When the brick wall disappears it means that LW can access the internet properly and that your firewall is configured correctly. Anything else and you have a problem with your equipment/software firewall and LW will not be able to function properly.

By the way, I have two firewalls, Norton Personal Firewall 2005 and one inbuilt in my Speedtouch modem/router so I do know what I am talking about.

Now Junior Member Dczone, if you do not believe me and my simple factual statements then wait until the other forum members reply.
