![]() Ottifant: Yeah, I knew how to do that, but thanks anyways. I have turned it off before but the brick wall still appears in front of the globe. And I don't even know if I have Norton Firewall or not. Also, something I haven't thought about: I have AOL Parental Controls on my screenname. I have the Mature Teen setting. It lets me go to limewire.com no problem, so I wouldn't think it had anything to do with the application being blocked, but I still wanted to throw that out there. |

![]() As I said, I haven't used such programs, but this much I know: You can block the connection (not getting on-line at all without a password), you can block spesific programs (Limewire being one), block a group of defined programs (P2P, downloaders, IRC, etc), block spesific web-sites, or block anything that has spesific words in them. You may be allowed to surf the Web and even visit Limewire-site and download the program in a web-browser, but you are not allowed to use Limewire since this is a whole new dimension to using the Net. If they don't know what to do, read the manual. Sit down with them on the computer and make the modifications yourself, under their supervision, to allow Limewire to use the connection when you are using the computer. If you don't get this to work, tell us which program you are using for parental control. If needed, I will download it and see if it can be altered. Be spesific though, a version number of the program is always a good help. |

Click Tools->Options A few steps that may, or may not work: 1-Then go to Speed. Have you set the speed correctly? This may be telling people you have a slower or faster connection than you have and then they send you and you send them wrong information. That is never good. 2-Connections: Try disabling connect on startup. This will allow the program to start fully without having to try to find a connection right away. Try connecting manually. 3-Filters->Hosts: Check that you haven't inadvertantly blocked so many hosts that Limewire has a hard time finding any. 4-If none of this works, try checking Program Data (a hidden folder in Documents and Settings under your profile name) for a folder named Limewire. (I don't have any, but different versions can do completely different things). If it's there, go to Add/Remove Programs and un-install Limewire first, then delete this folder. Find a folder, probably at root, named Incomplete and delete this. Move any files you have in your download folder and delete this too. Re-install Limewire. 5- If all the above doesn't work, if you haven't yet tried it, disconnect the cable or de-activate your modem/network card or wire-less connection and re-start. Be sure you have downloaded Limewire first. Do step 4 (or as much as you need to) Activate your modem/network card/connection and re-start Limewire. That's it from me. If you haven't gotten it to work now, I'm at a loss. ![]() |

Firewalling firewalls causes too many problems That's it from me. If you haven't gotten it to work now, I'm at a loss. ![]() |
