My internet is fine it works, I can go on the internet just fine but I just can't connect all the way to the 5 bars. I would appreciate for anyone to help me.

i have two fire walls running i guess. how do deactivate one?

Lord of the Rings October 2nd, 2006 07:39 PM

I can only "guess" you are running XP. Since you didn't post the information requested in the 2nd post of that link (also required by Forum Rules.) So go to control panel & you'll find xp firewall. Disable. Configure the other to allow LW access.

If still firewall issue, then configure your connection device to allow UPnP.

I'm so sorry about not giving you my info,

I disabled my firewall but I don't quite get what you mean by "Configure the other to allow LW access."
I'm sorry but can you be more specific. As you know i am new to this.

Thanks

Firewall configuration instructions (click on link). You said you have 2 firewalls. I presume you meant 2 software firewalls. You should not operate without at least one software firewall active. But if you have 2, then choose the better one & configure it to allow LimeWire full access. What's so difficult about these questions http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showpo...91&postcount=2

Ok i already did the link
http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml
WINDOWS XP INTERNET CONNECTION FIREWALL:
Within LimeWire, go to: Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> Firewall Config
Make a note of the Listening Port located in the box next to "Listen on Port"
Go to Start -> Control Panel
Open Network Connections
Right Click on the connection you use to connect to the network
Choose Properties
Go to the Advanced Tab
If your Firewalled is Enabled go to step 10
If you want to enable Windows XP Firewall check the box (this will enable the "settings" button. If you are not interested in enabling your Windows XP Firewall, hit cancel -- LimeWire will not be affected, and you may stop following these instructions.
Under Windows Firewall Options, Go to the Advanced Tab.
Select Internet connection used. (Local area network or the name of your connection)
Click the Setting button
Click the "Add..." button
In the description field add "Gnutella"
Set the IP address to "127.0.0.1"
Check the TCP Radio button
Set the external and internal ports to the same port that you made a note of in step 2
Press OK
Repeat steps 13 to 16, except this time check the UDP radio button in step 16
Make sure the list of services has two items listed Gnutella, and make sure they are both checked.
Click OK

there is still a problem.

And i have one firewall and if i disable it, my limewire still just says starting connection. I have no idea whats wrong. I did what you told me. is there any other way?

What brand & model of modem/router are you using? This might be the unknown firewall mystery. Do you see a brick wall at the bottom of LW's window? Most high speed modems/routers have internal NAT firewalls.

If you had have posted the answers to the questions as requested earlier, then I could have pointed to the problem very quickly rather than a post by post trying to use ESP or look thru the magical glass ball.

BTW it cheeses the regular members off when people are reluctant to post their details. As we can't help much without them. And besides, it's also a requirement as stipulated in the forum rules (as said earlier.) I guess you didn't bother to read them huh! Nobody knows who you are, it's all unanimous so posting these details will not hurt you. :D

i know i just don't know a whole lot about my modem or computer. I do see a brick around a globe.

I am using windows xp,
I have firewall enabled
I am using LAN/high speed internet as my network,
I configure your connection device to allow UPnP.

I just don't know what to do after you do http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml

Maybe it's my internet connection or something

By the way i appreciate you spending the time and helping me.

So you telnetted into your connection device & enabled UPnP? Telnet means you use your browser to log into the software management of your connection device. Try very hard to find the brand of your device. If you're on a lan, then you may be using a router. Are you connecting from home or work or school?
