Suddenly Can't Connect: Limewire 4.0 Mac OS 9

I've been using Limewire for over a year now. Downloaded cobs of stuff.

Suddenly, about 2 weeks ago, I can't connect. It tries, but ultimately disconnects. It says it's sharing all my files, but won't connect me.

I haven't added anything to my system in a good long while. Everything else appears to be working just fine.

I'm using Limewire 4.0. My system is Mac OS 9.

I've reloaded Limewire.

I've pitched my Limewire Prefs and restarted.

Nothing.

Help, please...

Thanks,
Chip

Which LW 4.0 are you using. I think the final release was 4.0.10
Who is your ISP?

I tried LW 4.0 about 2 weeks ago & it connected fine. I can try again. If problems then I'll get back to you about a "possible" solution.

I connected fine in OS 9. I let the shared files & incompletes load, then I manually connect (File menu -> Connect.) It connected very quickly for me. And had a good time downloading. So ... looks to me possibly like your ISP is to blame.

I'm using 4.0.7.

Forgive my ignorance, but what is an ISP? I use these bloody machines to make a living, but they're still alien to me.

I just tried again, and it wouldn't connect. Maybe this ISP thing will get me to the answer.

Thanks,
Chip

ISP = Internet Service Provider. ie: The company who provides the service for you to connect to the internet.

You could try LW 4.0.10 from here http://www.limewire.com/english/content/download.shtml which is the last OS 9 version released. But I suspect the problem is your ISP.

Thanks, I'll download it.

Providing it's my ISP, do I have any options?

Possibly a proxy. I can't remember how good LW 4.0 was with proxies. I'll need to check. The options changed not long after that version. ie: the later versions have a specific proxy option page/window.

What's a proxy (again demonstrating my massive ignorance), and how do I access the proxy options?

Would updating to Pro solve this problem?

Thanks again for the help.

Chip

No updating to pro would not solve your problems. Pro gives a slight improvement in performance but only if you're properly set up. And you're not at this point.

About proxies: (I don't know about them, you'll need to read as you find them) A Fix for those whose ISP's block Limewire pages 2 - 3 which have links to alternative instructions. Particularly check page 2 links.
