Angry All Files Corrupted at Work / Fine at Home

Ok this is weird. LW Basic always worked fine at home and office. About a month ago, LW stopped working at office completely. Every and I mean every file downloaded came up as corrupted - could not complete. Tested same files at home and they worked fine. PLEASE HELP. This is really frustrating. Tried reinstalling and everything.

This is usually due to corporate Virus protection and firewalls. If you search the forum you will find similar queries with no direct solution.

Did your office by any chance change or upgrade their protection before this happened?

You know Romermic

Your files being corrupted at work is not as weird as you think, all you have to do is ask your IT Admin/Security person have they upgraded/updated or installed new anti-virus apps on their DMZ servers (incoming internet servers).

If your office admin people have ramped up their AV app then this is the culprit behind your corrupted downloads. You see, office AV apps have a tendency to hash (pull apart and reassemble) all incoming files, searching for viruses, Trojans, malware and stuff that are anti-office policy.

So, it looks like your downloads are being reassembled minus certain (anti-office policy) bits.

Hope this helps.

To error on the side of caution, I'd be careful what you ask your IT people. After all, you ARE at work and using their computer for downloading purposes and some companies would take that seriously as a No-No. I know my work is pretty serious about how we use the internet. If we're caught downloading anything, especially files that could harm the computer network, we're as good as "out the door"

and so it should be...work is for working, not playing online, or running that fat hole in ones face on the phone, and certainly not for illegally downloading...think of the liability position the company gets put into by such activities...

I just know one of my coworkers asked an IT guy one time why his ebay was acting funny and the IT guy reported him. He was "counciled" about his internet usage policy and that was that.

We still go to ebay once in a while, but know better than to ask IT anything about why something doesn't work unless it's work related

Default Downloading at the Office

Guys

As one that was cautioned, a few years back, against downloading MP3s by my office's IT security people, I am well aware how seriously some offices can take certain internet issues.

For example, installing unauthorised software on an office PC is a disciplinary offence, which can lead to the perpetrator being fired. Plus, P2P software is seen as extremely dangerous because it can allow confidential data to be uploaded (to a competitor’s PC) in double quick time.

I would advise anyone planning to install any P2P app on an office PC “don’t” unless you think the risk of getting fired is worth it or negligible.
