Can't connect but could before I've been reading some of the posting where people have connection problems but some of it is above my head for solving the problems. My son has Lime Wire Pro 4.12.6 on his computer and we paid for a subscription. He was able to connect until about 3 wks ago and hasn't been able to since. I've tried getting help from the tech support from the link directly in Lime Wire but it hasn't been helpful at all. I've noticed that you need to know certain things about the computer in order to help. Can you let me know. I work with computers but am not computer system savy so will need to be walked through everything. My son is worse so...please help. We would like to very much get connected again. Thanks. |
Start here Connection problems? Check here first! Make sure you're only using 1 software firewall & that it's configured properly. The link above has lots of info about connection problems, have a look through that & see if anything helps. If you're stuck, give us your details...see the link below for the kind of info we need:) System details - help us to help you |
I guess the best thing for me is to be sitting at his computer to do this testing right. I'm trying to get the system details gathered that you've listed. How do I find out about the Firewalls in the computer. Where do I go. I really need to be walked through okay. |
Just post the thing you know first. Like if it's a PC or a Mac. Try your best then we can get to the things you can't figure out later. |
I tried going to that page but I am just getting lost. Here is what I have found out so far. 1. Windows XP Professional x64 Edition 2. I think the firewall is through AVG 7.5 (subscription) 3. 2.21 GHz, l.00 GB of Ram 4. 139 GB free space on C drive 5. DSL connection 6. Comtrend ADSL2+Router (belongs to service provider) 7. Connecting at home 8. Lime Wire Pro 4.12.6, Java 1.5._09 9. Ontera 10. Did the test, said it worked. 11. Sharing with parents computer through the device listed in #6 12. Not first try with Lime Wire 13. Yes, there is a brick wall |
Um when I went into Lime Wire, Tools, Options, Advanced, Firewall Configuration is showed the Listening Port as 2568. Does that mean anything?? |
Ok, first things first. Do you remember if you or your son made any changes to the computer right before this happened? (eg. installed some program or changed any settings) in Limewire Tools-->Options-->Advanced-->Firewall Configuration is "use UPnP (Recommended)" selected? Also do you know how to get into your router setup, or does your ISP do that for you? and do you have a manual for it? |
Not that I know of, no new programs except maybe he downloaded Google Earth. I'm not sure when, if that was before or after he couldn't connect. He thinks it was on there when he was still able to download. Yes, UPnP is selected. No I have no idea how to get into router setup, that is usually set up for the ISP. No manual. |
Try changing the listening port in Limewire to 6346 Also incase you haven't already tried. Try turning of your router and wait for 10 minutes before turning it back on. To find the Gateway IP for the Router. While you are connected to the internet go to Start-->Run. and type cmd then press enter. On the promt that pops up type ipconfig /all then press enter. The number that says Gateway IP is the address of the router Make a note of all the numbers there IP SUBNET GATEWAY DNS (Two numbers if you are lucky) note: it's really important that all the dots are in place eg. 192.168.1.101 Also can you try to find the exact make and model of your router. This should help us find a manual online and also it is possible that your ISP uses the default username and password to get into its setup. |
Tried changing the listening port from 2568 to 6346 - no change. We had a power outage the other day so the router was off for five hours and no change, but I will try manually turning it off and then turning it back on and see what happens. Do you need me to give you all those numbers? All I can find on the routher is Comtrend, Model CT-5621, P/N 22462-016. |
