Hi JSTJ1.
System details - help us to help you

Recently there's been a problem with people not providing enough details about their setup - despite being asked again & again.

So let's make it easy for everyone...the details that we need if we're going to be able to help with complex problems are:

1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98, XP,OSX ) XP users, Please state XP firewall on or off.?
2. What firewalls you have?
3. How much ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)?
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider)?
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user.
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface?

These are all contained within the sticky Connection problems? Check here first! but possibly some people are getting a bit confused or lost when we direct them to this sticky & ask them to provide their details.

This information can be vital
For instance, some ISPs are known for blocking p2p/throttling bandwidth, some connection devices are known for being unreliable in certain situations.

So please, help us to help you & provide as much info as you can.
If you're new to LW or new to computers & aren't sure how to answer some questions, or don't know what an ISP or router is - just say so. Nobody's going to yell at you:wink:
Even if you can't answer all the questions in one go...don't worry. Do the best you can & we'll take it from there.

mickjapa108 February 18th, 2007 04:24 AM

JSTJ1
Sorry friend I cant find any reports on hugesnet for shaping P2P so
Can you ring your ISP (Internet Service Provider) & ask if their modem has
a built in firewall ?
Also at the same time, ask if they shape P2P file sharing programs, dont let
them fob you off, if they say no, Ask For it in writing, If they do they will
usualy come clean at this point.
Please Confirm XPfirewall is disabled, AT, Start/Control Panel, double click on
windows firewall, n Disable. uncheck,(Dont alow exeptions) if ticked.
Please get back to us it helps others.
Peace.

JSTJ1 February 18th, 2007 10:20 AM

They said huges used a firewall but it's disable by defluat. I asked them if they allow p2p sharing they said I can shar files and folders on the internet

JSTJ1 February 18th, 2007 10:27 AM

OH yeah I seen it had a NAT I read something on here on alot that

mickjapa108 February 19th, 2007 05:01 AM

JSTJ1 Hi.
If u can access the NAT firewall, then enable the option, UPnP, then Go to L/W, Tools/Options/Advanced/Firewall Config, and check UPnP is enabled
that should fix it.
Please tell us if it workes or not, it helps others.
Peace.

JSTJ1 February 19th, 2007 05:59 AM

JSTJ1 February 19th, 2007 08:18 AM

I runing a pro plan with hugesnet that uses NAT and it I can't disable If i upgrade to the next plan 10 more bucks amonth they will do away with the NAT and I will have a Static Ip address instead of NAT firewall. I told them lime wire is being firewalled and they said if I upgrade it will resove the problem. Well I'll be upgrading

homi February 21st, 2007 07:49 PM

it is definately the port forwarding issue , as soon as i figure out how to port forward on this router i will post it , hughes net has no idea how to tell me where to begin on the port forwarding .. the only thing i can think of is the router is firewalling the port needed by limewire and utorrent .. , but i am working on it people , just give me time and i will figure this out , i never give up :P

mickjapa108 February 22nd, 2007 01:30 AM

Homi man.
When You recived your modem/router package, you would have a setup CD
with it, So try looking on the CD, (DONT run it) explore it and look for the
setup Read me folder, Your firewall setup may be in there.
Peace.

homi February 22nd, 2007 10:26 PM

there was nothing on the cd that came with the modem/router, i have been all through the routers setup page and can not find anywhere to change the port settings , this is begining to get frustrating.... but i never give up :D

mickjapa108 February 23rd, 2007 03:56 AM

Hi Homi. This is what JSTJ1 says, after contact with Hughesnet.
Phone them homi,to be sure.

"ALL right here's the fix I talked to advanced tech hughesnet. I runing a pro plan with hugesnet that uses NAT and it I can't disable If i upgrade to the next plan 10 more bucks amonth they will do away with the NAT and I will have a Static Ip address instead of NAT firewall. Homi, post back n let us know how you got on.
Peace.

homi February 23rd, 2007 11:52 AM

i am already on the highest plan proplus and i do have a static ip and i still have this problem , so someone is being lied to .... they support port forwarding and they "claim" that they dont block any ports , and it is on my pc that i need to be concerned with the ports , but i have all firewalls off and on stand alones this is really annoying , i just need one damn listening port to be open but i can not get one i have tried manually configuring the tcp/upd ports on my pc and through windows firewall to make sure that they were open on my end , it has to be hughes net .. but i will finnd a way around it . i just havent found the right person yet :D but i never give up

homi February 23rd, 2007 11:52 AM

ma bad
they dont support port forwarding

mickjapa108 February 24th, 2007 05:55 AM

OK Homi man.

Im not giving in, so try this link, its the instructions to your wireless router.
Do what they say n follow steps in exact order given n get back.
Try using UPnP option first, n dont forget to re boot your computer before
restarting L/W,we will get there in the end.

homi February 24th, 2007 02:57 PM

ok guys i knew how to get to the system info page , but here's the kicker . you cant change anything on it you can not change any settings its really dumb , i mean all this crap and you cant set it the way you want to, i guess im just SOL on the whole p2p thing fornow , portforward doesnt ahve anything on this modem/router, i uploaded screenshots of every page i could find on the system info and then i went to the advanced page and took screenshots of all of them and they emailed me and sai it looks like there is nothing you can do about it , your router/modem doesnt support port forwarding , but i think it does , just no one has figured it out yet...but i never give up :D, thanks for all of your help Granpa and mick . but im still trying .

Grandpa February 24th, 2007 03:54 PM

Just curious did you check out the link I left you for Hughes net forum.

There are 2 different plans from what I can see and if you want to run LimeWire or any other P2P app then you will have to have the Static IP plan where they give you a IP Address. The Dynamic plan which is what I believe you have Will Not Allow You To Set Up A Port any way I would advise you to go to the link below and see if the can help you.

http://www.dslreports.com/forum/sat

homi February 24th, 2007 11:05 PM

i have the highest plan pro plus with a static ip already.. still not working

homi February 24th, 2007 11:11 PM

i just really need to know how to port forward on this thing and that will solve the problem

Grandpa February 24th, 2007 11:33 PM

Try the link below
