LW isn't really working again. I am not getting any search results whatsoever.

My router does support UPnP. It is enabled. The UPnP option is chosen in LW as well.

Now I am constantly getting the message that "LW is currently connecting to the network. Your search results may not return many results until you are fully connected to the network."

Directly followed by the error message, "Your machine does not appear to have an active Internet connection or a firewall is blocking LW from accessing the internet. LW will automatically keep trying to connect you to the network unless you select 'Disconnect' from the File menu."

The firewall icon remains as well.

Reconfigure your Norton firewall

If that's no help, try port forwarding (see the link in my earlier post).

I tried reconfiguring my Norton firewall, as per the linked instructions. That didn't work.

I tried port forwarding, that didn't help either.

I also tried putting my fist through the monitor. Surprisingly that was of no help.

Any other advice I might be able to try. I just don't get why it works sometimes, usually when I make the initial changes as per instructed, but then it goes back to not working.

The ol' 'fist thru the monitor' isn't a recommended fix

I don't know why port forwarding's not working. Did you have the option to save & reboot your router after setting things up? Did you make sure that all port numbers were the same within the router & within LW's options? After you set up port forwarding, did the firewall icon disappear at all (even for a little while)?

Sorry, been a way for a while. Crazy busy at work you know. Any hoodle...

May be I screwed up the port forwarding. I tried again and it did not work.

I did just realize that a new program was installed on my computer. My fiancée's sister had some type of MP3 player and they installed the "software" that came with it to transfer the files. It is an RCA Lyra (???) and there was the Yahoo! Music Engine installed. I removed this.

Also, I have bit torrent as well and that appears to be working, although very slowly. I know I could use this to share files, but I find LW much faster (when it is working) for audio files.

Any more ideas, other than using my machine as an anchor once the snow melts here.

Are you trying to use BT & LW together? Just run one at a time. Change your LW port to 64049 & see if that helps. Also change the port forwarded to 64049.

Did you make sure to set up a static IP address before port forwarding?

Are you port forwarding for BT?

There are some helpful hints about alternative uses for your computer here

If yours is a desktop, I'm sure you could adapt some of these ideas to suit!!!

We could use some snow here in Perth right now.

Whoo hoo!

I think I got it! I went through setting up the port forwarding. Let's just say I took my time, re-read instructions, and proceeded. Not sure what I did wrong first few times, but LW is working now.

The brickwall is gone and I have between 4 to 5 green connection bars.

I do use BT and LW at the same time. Would you still recommend I don't.

Also, quick question: now that I have forwarded my port, will that affect my Internet connections in any other way?

Aaaagh!

As I was typing this I got the error message that my computer doesn't have an internet connection or a firewall is blocking me. Somehow I lost the connection to the Internet and had to re-connect (file - connect).

I am doing a search for something that I test searched for when my LW was working two minutes ago. Nothing is being found and last time 189 files were found. I am now down to three green connection bars and no brick wall in front of the globe.

I just received the error message about no active internet connection or the firewall again.

Still no wall in front of the globe, and I'm thinking as I type this in a forum on the World Wide Web that I have an Internet connection.

Now what?
