Default Another person with a connection problem

Hello,
We just recently got satellite internet and a new computer. I am no computer whiz, and can not for the life of me figure out how to get limewire to work. It generally connects to about 3 bars, and sometimes does connect fully, but I am behind a firewall it says. If i do search for a song and try to download it, it downloads really slowly... like 2KB/s

1. OS version? Windows XP
2. What firewalls you have? Windows and Avast
3. How much ram? not sure
4. Hard Disk space available? 74.5 GB
5. Connection type? satellite
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? ViaSat Surfbeam Satellite Modem SM-100 SM-2000
7. Where are you trying to connect from... Home
8. What version of LimeWire The newest version
9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider)? xplornet
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: Your test worked
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? I dont think so
12. Is this a your 1st try.... 1st try with new computer
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? Yes

I looked through some of the links with the but am having a hard time understanding it all.

Any help would be great.

It sounds like Xplornet throttle p2p, that would explain your slow downloads. Were you with them before you switched to satellite? There might be a different threshold for throttling with a satellite service. Do speeds improve if you download between midnight & 6 a.m.?

Other people have had issues too...use the forum search to look for Xplornet.

You shouldn't be running 2 firewalls together. Disable one & configure the other to allow LW

Do you have a router as well as the satellite modem? If so, we need the brand & model. I can't find much info about your modem but there doesn't seem to be an internal firewall.

No, I didn't have Xplornet before I switched to satellite.. I think I just have a router. I don't know if I have a satellite modem. I tried disabling one of the firewalls and configuring the other. But no luck.

Thanks for all your input so far though!!

Try swapping firewalls - which ever one you disabled, enable it & configure it to allow LW. Then turn the other one off.

You said in your first post that you've got a satellite modem!! There's no firewall in that modem. Most routers do have their own internal firewall, that's why I asked whether you're also using a router.

Try changing ports. In LW tools > options > advanced > firewall config. Change LW's listening port to 64049 (or something in the range of 49152 - 65535) > apply > ok.

Thanks for all of your help. You've been great. I have tried everything, although I am a little computer challenged so I am probably not doing it right. Thanks again though!!

Hi KRU I know exactly what u mean..
I did everthing I could but the speed doesnt go any faster than 2KB/s max. Its connecting alght but just very very slow...
at least u got rid of ur firewall, mine came back to haunt me after port forwarding a couple of hrs later!!!

did u try downloading a video from magnet and see what speed u got up to? mine got up to 70KB/s!! but it never get "that" fast or even come close when its actually something "I want"

Oh well keep positive sure there ll be a solution 4 both of us

Jess.
