It's good that you don't see the wall in front of the globe anymore ;)

Try these fixes....
Try uninstalling your Java from the add/remove programs and then re-install the JRE offline version....(4th one down)
Java SE Downloads

Then uninstall Limewire using the uninstaller which is found in start > all programs > limewire...then re-install it using the offline installer...
LimeWire: The Official Site for the Fastest File Sharing Program on the Planet

If that does not help with your problem try deleting your preference folder...
Fixes for Limewire when LW isn't operating as it should

It could also have something to do with tiscali they are known to shape p2p

This thing about tiscali, what does it mean that they are known to "shape" p2p? I can usually get a connection first thing in the morning but anytime after dinnertime i cant connect, help appreciated x :wai:

wondering why May 7th, 2007 02:33 AM

Definatley, Tiscali shape your connection at certain times of the day, it can depend on where you live to what time this happens...
Here's a little more info on them...;)
Tiscali & Limewire
can't connect between 5pm-11pm
I have found a solution to getting Limewire to work with Tiscali

misssarahleigh May 7th, 2007 07:47 AM

Hi rach_13...
When you installed limewire did you both install a version or did just one of you install it and create a shortcut for the other ??

The Speedtouch has a Nat Firewall built into it...so that would be the wall you are both seeing...
So if you could tell me the model number (it's underneath it) I wil give you the instructions to port forward...;)

Hi wondering why!
I will have to double check with my sis but i'm pretty sure originally she paid to get limewire just the basic version (we both had 4.8.1). Then she put it on my page for me but i don't think she downloaded again i think she just got it out of her folder or something.

Also our modem is a Speedtouch 530.

Thanks heaps :)

wondering why May 9th, 2007 12:00 AM

ok..Make sure you are not trying to run limewire at the same time on different accounts as this could be causing the conflict...

I might hand you over to 6_Pac I know he has helped people with there Ports when running on 2 accounts...

Because I'm not to sure if you both have to have different Port numbers or the same...I hope you don't mind...;)

I'll pm him now...

6_pac May 9th, 2007 01:32 AM

If you have LW running on two accounts at the same time they have to use different ports. They both can't use the same one. LW will choose a different port automatically when you start the second one. Where you might run into problems is if you haven't made exceptions for the other port through your firewall and router. It might connect on one account and not the other.

Directions to port forward your router: Port Forwarding for the Thomson/Alcatel SpeedTouch 530

Hope this helps :).

What Worked for Me

I had trouble for months (okay, I didn't make it a priority though) and tried everything I could find. I finally found this answer on a thread and it worked. It's quick and easy to try, so you might as well try this before you start uninstalling, deleting and all that other stuff.

In windows (I have XP)

Go to Start My Computer
Go to c:\programs\program files\limewire
then click (or double click) on the file that reads
limewire.jar
(and under it says executable jar file)

Once I clicked on that, i went through the short setup language thing again and it worked fine!!!!

Don't know what'll happen when i shut down again of course, so i'm cramming in some downloads now!

I just made a shortcut of that file to my desktop.

Oh ya, I heard it helps if you disable the "start limewire at startup option" from another thread.

So I'm going to post this in a bunch of threads in case it helps anyone else.

I got this advice from another thread so thank you to them!!

rach_13 May 9th, 2007 09:08 PM

Hurrah!!!

Thankyou so much guys! I tried the executable jar file thing and now it works fine. :aweof:
Thanks for the instuctions for the ports to. I'll keep them incase i get stuck again.
One more thing this is my first time using the 4.12.11 version so i've never had the copyright message come up before...does this come up for every song? I'm assuming i just click yes?

Thankyou! Everything is all good now :)

StolyDoly May 10th, 2007 09:16 AM

I have the same prob

I think you're on to something. I recently had a power outage and now I am also getting only one bar. It shows the number of files I'm sharing but I can't connect to anyone else. I also tried all the firewall fixes to no avail. I have never had a problem before. Hope you get a fix because I think it will help me as well.

rach_13 May 10th, 2007 07:59 PM

Hey StolyDoly, did u try what fivekitten previously posted about going to the limewire executable jar file??? Its on the previous page of this thread and it worked really well for me...Sorry if u already did, just thought u might not have seen that post. :)

StolyDoly May 10th, 2007 09:41 PM

Thx Rach_13. I just tried the limewire jar thing and all it did was open my LW. Same lack of connection.

Tried it - didn't work. It just starts Limewire in the normal fashion, and sits there with one bar - effectively trying to connect forever, but never actually connecting.

My firewall icon is showing the wall (that is, lw has detected a firewall) and yet I have no firewall turned on (windows firewall is disabled and PC-cillan firewall is disabled - infact PC cillan is turned off as well as the firewall feature disabled). I have tried everything including putting my PC in a DMZ (a setting in my d-link router) effectively connecting to the internet with zero firewall protection - and still I can't connect.

I've just about given up.

Try rolling your Java back to the JRE 5.11 using the offline installer...
(5th one down)....
Java SE Downloads - Previous Release - JDK 5

Also what is the model number for your D-Link...You would more than likely have a Nat Firewall in it and will need to port forward...;)

Try Port Forwarding your router, these are your instructions...;)
Port Forwarding for the Dlink DI-524

You should also be able to make an exeption in PC-Cillan for Limewire...
You need to allow incomming and outgoing traffic...
This link is for both, just click on them and scroll down and select Limewire...

Thanks wondering why I did that and it worked - router setup as follows under the "virtual server" section (which is basically a "hole in the firewall" section):

Name = Limewire.4
Private IP = ***.***.*.*
Protocol Type = Both
Private Port = 32949
Public Port = 32949
Schedule = Always

I don't understand why my DMZ didn't work, as that is supposed to open all ports and directly connect ***.***.*.* to the internet - no holes barred. (At least that's my understanding).

Anyway - thanks again.

hi

hi everyone. my emails to this thread have stopped and i thought you were all ignoring me, sorry

tried that limewire.jar thing but i don't have that file (hope it's not important) tried doing the port forwarding, all firewalls are off, uninstalled etc java and limewire, tried everything on the limewire help pages and............................................... .............. yep still have my little wall.

help help help, i'm ment to be getting a new mp3 player but pretty useless without being able to download

p.s somebody mentioned the power cut thing. i was the same. i think the power cut could do something that ain't good

wondering why May 13th, 2007 05:23 AM

Maybe you should contact your ISP and explain to them about the powercut as it could be the problem...Maybe your modem/router got zapped...

misssarahleigh May 13th, 2007 05:29 AM

i do have another modem (the Same) so i could try that, although would it just affect limewire, it's been zapped before in a storm and it cut out all my internet, would it just cut out limewire

wondering why May 13th, 2007 05:35 AM

You wouldn't think so, you would think it would affect all internet connections..
I need to go back and have a look at your set up again, hang tight...

misssarahleigh May 13th, 2007 05:36 AM

thanks

wondering why May 13th, 2007 05:39 AM

It's definatley got to be Tiscali that's doing this to you...I just had another poster with the same problems as you...
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/gettin...one-alarm.html

The only thing I can suggest is to try at different times of the day and night or change to a different ISP...

misssarahleigh May 13th, 2007 05:41 AM

should i give tiscali a ring. i have been trying at different times of the day

misssarahleigh May 13th, 2007 05:41 AM

oh yes, is there a different program similar to limewire that i could try so if i cannot connect with that i know it's not limewire but tiscali

mickjapa108 May 13th, 2007 05:46 AM

I will eat my mouse mat if its not tiscali. LOL
Peace.

wondering why May 13th, 2007 05:50 AM

misssarahleigh May 13th, 2007 05:55 AM

i will hold you to eating your mouse mat lol

i shall give one of them a try, give me 10 mins

don't dissaperar

mickjapa108 May 13th, 2007 06:07 AM

One guy reported success with Frostwire, just change port No's every day n
use manual portfawrd not UPnP n I hope u can stay off their radar.
I would gladly eat my mat if we could put the finger UP tiscali LOL
Good Luck. n keep us posted.

misssarahleigh May 13th, 2007 06:12 AM

the dam wall is there. ok, going to change my modem last try, if not going to ring up tiscali and get nasty. shall report back. give us 5 mins

misssarahleigh May 13th, 2007 06:30 AM

ok, the new modem and the new program didn't work.
so i'm ringing tiscali.

what do i need to say, do you prevent p2p programes??

one last bit of help please

wondering why May 13th, 2007 12:11 PM

You could give them a ring and ask if they shape p2p, I don't know if it will do any good...I would personally ditch them and get a new ISP...;)
But if you do that make sure you research the company you choose, you don't want to go through all of this again...

misssarahleigh May 13th, 2007 12:52 PM

i can't just ditch them as i have at least 8 months of my contract left and can't afford another.

bugger:mad2:

mickjapa108 May 14th, 2007 03:27 AM

Dont let Tiscali Get away with it.

Hi Sarah.
What I did with 9 months contract outstanding, was play them like a fiddle.
First read their Fare (LOL)User pollacy, so you know what it includes.
I then went to a hare Krsna site, where they have loads of large video files for
download, Where I highlight 10, 650MB files these are downloaded using my browser (Firefox).
I started these D/L's at 5-30pm & left them running until 11pm everyday without
fail. When they were finished I deleted them & started again.
OH!! Turn off Limewire before doing this Because if L/Ws running at 6pm, TISCALI automatically switches your connection to another server that they
Put all P2P users on.
For those with an unlimited connection, Surely This must be illegal, But no one has the money it costs to sue them. So what it needs is for 10 or so people in
England to get together and make an arrangement for each to pay £1 of each
others connection. Then withdraw payment, Tiscali will then take them to court.
In England you can get legal Aid to defend yourself & it all rests on the definition of the word Unlimited, even a crap solicitor could define that.
to much trouble ? :bangh: :bangh: :bangh: :bangh:
Then STUFF them like I did, after 3 weeks, OF FULL Downloads they were writing to me saying "we are writing to inform you that you can apply for your
mac code now, we will not hold you to, or enforce your contract"
Job Done. I'M now with NTL/Virgin & very Happy.:PEACE: :PEACE: :PEACE:
Your servant,
Peace.

shantom May 16th, 2007 04:57 AM

I rang Tiscali about this and they asked me loads of tech questions they have tested my line and found nothing wrong, they say they will retest this, i suspect that they are just trying to fob me off as big companies normally do, i have already told the tech bloke that if it isnt sorted in 2 weeks that i will cancel my direct debit and that they can take me to court and i will then tell the court why i am not paying. Why should i give them my money every month for 4 hours service this is the amount of time i can connect for everyday that is providing i connect at 8am. The thing is i dont download a lot from Limewire and when i rang them they said there was no notes on my account to say that i do. Apart from this Tiscali are ok

mickjapa108 May 16th, 2007 05:32 AM

Hi shantom
ask them direct, Are you shaping,Filtering or interfering in any way with P2P
They will only come clean when you ask for that in writing.
Tell them you want it for your solicitor, & see what they say.LOL
They are just thieves, claiming to give you unlimited connection then limiting you, to the programs approved by them that is illegal but hoo has the money to take them to court.
Peace.

shantom May 16th, 2007 05:40 AM

well surprise surprise i can connect this afternoon, normally i can only connect btween 8am and 12 noon, i wonder if the phone call did the trick or will they just start shaping it again in a few weeks time, well ill have to wait and see but if i do start having probs again ill do what you said mick see what they say then, thanks for help anyway x

mickjapa108 May 16th, 2007 06:13 AM

In England its 6pm till 11pm when they block P2P other times of the day should
be OK, Well slow but working
I was with them for years before they started blocking, then they stuffed me in a big way.
Good luck,
Peace.
