Question Need Help!!!!! (connecting)

I have used Limewire since late last summer without the first problem. All of a sudden, I can no longer connect. The logo flashes on my desktop, but nothing happens. I have downloaded, uninstalled and re-downloaded the current version of Limewire. I have uninstalled and re-downloaded the newest version of Java. I have checked, removed and re-listed Limewire on the exceptions on my Firewall. I have not downloaded or installed any new hardware or programs. It just quit working!

I have Windows XP, 2nd edition, use AVG anti-virus program. My internet service is Earthlink DSL and has been for several months, so I didn't think that was the problem. I was using Limewire and downloading music last week with no problems, but when I tried it this weekend, nothing would work. Does anyone have any suggestions? I've tried everything that was suggested in the FAQ's, or at least I think I have. Can somebody please help????

I have the same problem that occurred this weekend. I have Comcast as my ISP. I have been using Limewire for a very long time without problems. I have tried everything in the forums.

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one with the problem. It makes me feel better knowing I didn't screw something up again! LOL

YankeeMama,

Try deleting the LW preference folder. Instructions here(point 3): Fixes for Limewire Doing so will revert your settings back to the default. So make a note of them first.

If no joy, try uninstalling java 6 and install java 5. Use JRE 5.0 Update 11(Offline Installer). Java SE Downloads - Previous Release - JDK 5.

scarney1,

Check your other thread.

Default What Worked for Me

I had trouble for months (okay, I didn't make it a priority though) and tried everything I could find. I finally found this answer on a thread and it worked. It's quick and easy to try, so you might as well try this before you start uninstalling, deleting and all that other stuff.

In windows (I have XP)

Go to Start My Computer
Go to c:\programs\program files\limewire
then click (or double click) on the file that reads
limewire.jar
(and under it says executable jar file)

Once I clicked on that, i went through the short setup language thing again and it worked fine!!!!

Don't know what'll happen when i shut down again of course, so i'm cramming in some downloads now!

I just made a shortcut of that file to my desktop.

Oh ya, I heard it helps if you disable the "start limewire at startup option" from another thread.

So I'm going to post this in a bunch of threads in case it helps anyone else.

I got this advice from another thread so thank you to them!!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!!! IT WORKED!!!!! Wish I had known that before I did all that uninstalling and re-installing stuff. I really appreciate you taking the time to let me know, and thank you to 6_pac as well, even though his suggestion didn't work for me.
