i have had limewire and frostwire for a very long time, and all of a sudden neither of them can connect,

Hi Chris,
Toucan are Tiscali resellers. Heaps of people have had trouble with their Tiscali connection lately (even after having no probs in the past). Check out the post below & see if any of that info helps.

You could try reinstalling Java. You don't say which version you're using but try this one. Remove your old Java version before you install the new one Use the JRE offline installer.

You could also try deleting LW's preferences folder when LW's properly closed. See point 3 below (also point 2 if you've used much older versions of LW in the past). This will kill all of your settings within options...you'll have to go back through & reset things afterwards!
